Physical Depression! #depression #depressionsymptoms #whatstrending #signsofdepression

Recently, I had a friend who had been suffering from various physical maladies, ranging from headaches to sleep problems to joint and muscle pain. She went to many doctors but could not get a clear diagnosis. One of the doctors, who thought she was a feigning her illnesses, suggested she go to a psychiatrist.

When she reluctantly went to the appointment with the psychiatrist, her dismay turned into a clear path to understanding her health issues and a true path toward healing, including counseling. Every physical symptom she was experiencing was as a result of severe depression disorder. Most of us know about the emotional symptoms of depression. But you may not know that depression can be associated with many physical symptoms, as well.
In fact, many people with depression suffer from chronic pain or other physical symptoms. (From WedMD.com) These include:
  1. Headaches. These are fairly common in people with depression. If you already had migraine headaches, they may seem worse if you're depressed.
  2. Back pain. If you already suffer with back pain, it may be worse if you become depressed.
  3. Muscle aches and joint painDepressioncan make any kind of chronic painworse.
  4. Chest pain. Obviously, it's very important to get chest pain checked out by an expert right away. It can be a sign of serious heartstomachlungor other problems. But depression can contribute to the discomfort associated with chest pain.
  5. Digestive problems. You might feel queasy or nauseated. You might have diarrheaor become chronically constipated.
  6. Exhaustion and fatigue. No matter how much you sleep, you may still feel tired or worn out. Getting out of the bed in the morning may seem very hard, even impossible.
  7. Sleeping problems. Many people with depression can't sleepwell anymore. They wake up too early or can't fall asleep when they go to bed. Others sleepmuch more than normal.
  8. Change in appetite or weight. Some people with depression lose their appetite and lose weight. Others find they crave certain foods -- like carbohydrates -- and weigh more; and
  9. Dizzinessor lightheadedness.
As you can see, a lack of the Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins in the brain can cause many amplified physical symptoms in the body. If you are experiencing more than two of the symptoms above and believe you may be suffering from untreated depression, please go see a physician or a psychiatrist as soon as possible.
