Bo Sebastian's Finding Authentic You!: Courting a Definite Concept #InfiniteMind #wisdom ...

How do you attract something (an idea, a person, knowledge, a thing) to your life—effectively? Read on...

Courting a Definite Concept #InfiniteMind #wisdom #spiritualadvice #spirituality #SOM

Today’s lesson is about how the individual mind of man or woman takes from Unlimited Source, which is Divine Mind or God, what it needs ONLY as it is capable of understanding and conceiving of that particular idea or thing.

I remember as a child the first time I got my eyesight tested. I came back home believing I wanted to be an Optometrist. To that end, I studied everything about the science of medicine and vision. I forced myself to gain the knowledge needed to become a doctor. I’d have to get a scholarship, as we were poor. So, I got straight A’s all the time. That dream thrived as all the knowledge I needed to attain it came to me, as long as I deeply desired it.

Then, one day, I had the chance to sing on stage in front of a receptive audience. The applause, the acceptance, and the many words of encouragement vainly led me to change my lifelong dream to that of wanting to be an actor/singer/dancer. To that end, I began to take dance class, take voice lessons, and study acting.

The point of this story is that I opened my mind to a particular idea, no matter the reason. As we all are connected to Infinite Mind, we draw from This Source what we want, what we are ready to accept, and allow our own minds to receive the amount of knowledge we can conceive.

When I first went to college for singing, I flunked the first semester of my vocal juries. All of the teachers at Carnegie-Mellon University said I’d never be a singer. But, I would not accept that choice for myself. Instead, I conceived in my mind to be an even greater singer than any one of those teachers. To that end, many amazing opportunities appeared in my life to teach me the way of unleashing my potential.

So, the truth: God as Source is full of all concepts, ideas, and energy. As we are a part of Source, in the image of Source, we can be or have any one of these concepts. But, each individual only attracts to him/herself that which it desires. Ernest Holmes writes: “The scientist discovers the principles of his science, the artist embodies the spirit of his art, the saint draws Christ into his being—all because they have courted the particular presence of some definite concept.

Today, if you want to attract to your life a dream, an idea, knowledge, or prosperity, you must first open your mind to courting that definite concept. In other words, this definite concept is a picture in your mind that is so defined that you can already see it clearly, what you would do if you were that idea or had that tangible object. You also MUST begin to carry with you the PASSION of having that dream, as if it were yours already.

But, the key in this lesson is that “courting” is an action. It’s deliberate. If you want something, you have to, not only believe it is your in Divine Mind, but you must move toward it with steady passion and fortitude.

The Reaction of the Mechanical to the Volitional #volition #wisdom #spiritualadvice #spirituality #SOM

My theme for a short while is going to be how “Love rules through Law.” Today, I want to help you understand the mechanics of how we use our personal mind to discover new ideas and make them our own. This is the reaction of the Mechanical (without the use of our mind) to the Volitional (using our mind).

To understand any mystery we must first perceive it as a physical or mental truth. Once we discovery anything new or different in the world, we can then use our will (or volition) to invite our minds to comprehend it. Of course, many levels of comprehension exist. We don’t have to be a doctor of medicine to know how an antibiotic works.

This second part is the volitional process of understanding any concept. With our brain and mind, we can observe and then comprehend anything new and unusual in the world. But, specifically, in terms of spiritual concepts or Laws in the universe, we FIRST must notice them—see them—experience them—to realize that they, indeed, have existence. Then, once we determine their reality, we can invite our volitional process to begin the internal search of how this Law works on our own behalf.

This is how your own mind takes and perceives a Universal Law and then uses the Truth found in the Law for your own personal use.

Let’s take, for instance, the Law of Vacuum Technology. Where there is a vacuum, for instance, a bag of coffee that has had the air removed, we initially perceive the internal contents of that bag to be hard, like a piece of wood. You can take this bag of coffee and tap it on the countertop. It sounds as if you are using a mallet. Then, simply open the top of the bag of coffee and introduce AIR to the contents, and what do you get? A bag of soft coffee.

Tap that soft bag of coffee on the counter, and you’ll have a completely different sound.
So, a law existed here about Vacuum Technology that you may or may not have ever seen before. In the bag of coffee, before it was opened, it had been vacuumed sealed, which means all of the air or space had been removed, causing the contents to be denser and APPEAR to be smaller in size; when, in fact, the coffee remained the same.

When you opened the seal of the coffee bag, air automatically entered the internal space of the bag and increased the volume of the matter inside—the coffee. If you didn’t know what “vacuum sealed” was, this seemingly solid bag of coffee turning soft within moments would be like a miracle or a trick of some sort. It takes the human mind to perceive space expanding, first. Then, through intrigue and the desire to comprehend the law of vacuum technology, we can volitionally use our minds to make this law our own. The same concept happens with Spiritual Law.

You don’t need to know the intricacies of the law of Volumetric Flow or Gas Density to see the change in the coffee. However, if should you decide to understand this process and use it for yourself, you may need to begin to study Kinetic Gas Theory to help you understand the process more fully, so that you can use this concept for your own benefit. I believe, this is where most people STOP their spiritual growth.

Once you realize you have to understand something to use it, we often make the choice to let others who have dedicated their lives to studying the law do our work for us. Alas, we use practitioners to pray for us, ministers to teach us, and doctors of spirituality to share the deeper meanings of truth. But, when we let go of our own mind and use the minds of others to pray and, more importantly, to understand and embrace spiritual law, we miss out on the very important process of Volition. To use a law, we can’t just perceive it, we must begin to understand how it works as well.

So, today, I would love for you to let go of the idea that the Law of Spirituality is too difficult to understand. I’m going to make it very simple with examples and easy ways to use these laws in your life. But, you have to make a choice to let me help you. More importantly, open your mind to something new.

Can Love and Law Co-abide? #wisdom #spiritualadvice #spirituality #SOM

“Love rules through Law. Love is the Divine Givingness; Law is the way. Love is spontaneous; Law is impersonal,” say Ernest Holmes in the Science of Mind textbook.
Within these statements is great mystery. As in the picture attached to this post, “we can only attract what we think we deserve.” The statement is a universal law: the Law of Attraction. Yet, behind it, lies the presence of Love, which seeks for all of us to have what we need, when we need it—mentally, physically, and spiritually—and does so spontaneously.

My first inclination is to imagine law dressed in a police uniform or holding a judge’s gavel. Law hasn’t always been loving in my world or anyone’s, for that matter. Yet, the Law I speak of here is not the Law of the land. It is Universal Law—Law that doesn’t change with time. This is Law set out by Source or God at the beginning of time to contain the universe and also allow it to grow on its own volition. So subtle are its parameters, yet so confounding and definite that they keep us bound to the earth by gravity, contain the raging oceans, let us fail, and, also, press us forward to our greatest achievements.

When I think of Love, I think of romantic love; which, for me, I need to reshape and remodel in my own mind. Romantic love has never been and probably will never be any kind of definition of universal Love, because it is too ephemeral. The kind of Love Holmes speaks of is the kind of love that doesn’t change with time or with the day. It stays the same and undergirds all of humanity and the universe. So, what exactly is this Love he talks about that is “so spontaneous?”

When I checked the dictionary for a definition, I noticed that the word spontaneous was divided into groups: spontaneity of a person, in a process of events, in Biology, and archaic.
I wanted to avoid the definitions following people, so I chose this definition to understand Holmes. Spontaneity in the biology of a cell is the movement or activity in an organism, which is instinctive or involuntary. In this definition, I believe we can see the kind of Love in which Law co-abides. For Divine Law to work, Love must allow spontaneous growth to happen. So, here we see that the Ocean can be a place of beauty and rest, but also may cause spontaneous disaster. The Law (and love, for that matter) is impersonal when it comes to the spontaneity of growth in all matter on earth.

When perceived chaos happens, is it really not the law seeking to fulfill its divine premise? For instance: two parents with a genealogy of unusual chromosomes have a child that is born with three legs. If you consider the highest laws of the universe; you might think that this is exactly what happens when two strangely varying sets of genes combine. But, if you look at this without the magnifying glass of the Law and Love as one entity, then you may mistake this deformity as being a mistake or malevolence of the universe, pointed directly toward these unsuspecting parents, and worse yet, toward the child.

Another example is the spontaneity of weather. Legalistic religion might consider that a natural disaster is God’s way of punishing someone. But, how could this be so when tornadoes, hurricanes, and tsunamis have leveled lands of so many cultures and beliefs, probably including the very belief of the religious cult seeking to personify God and plagiarize God’s words?

For the Law and Love to co-abide, Law and Love must be impersonal! This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love you or me. It means that God loves us so much that It created an impenetrable Law for us to live by, so that you may create and function in spontaneous growth, knowing the parameters by which you must live by. This is what I hope to unfold for you in the coming lessons, so that you may, also, live within the parameters of this perfect Law of Love and prosper accordingly.

Gaining Wisdom #wisdom #spiritualadvice #spirituality #SOM

Aristotle says: “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Socrates says: “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” So, from as far back as the 13th Century, we see that the culture of the ages was that “gaining wisdom” was paramount to understanding life.

We fast-forward to the present as Isaac Asimov, an author and biochemist, says: The saddest aspect of life, right now, is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.”

This makes me wonder if in today’s fast-paced society we spend the proper amount of time needed to understand ourselves and our place in the universe. Are we more apt to be rushing somewhere to gain more money or to attain more power? How often do we sit contemplating the stars and gathering the energy from a walk on the beach?

Of course, life is about balance. We couldn’t possibly have the time and wherewithal to sit on the beach if we didn’t have a job, food, and a place to rest at night. But, do we need the sailboat, mansions, or 500-dollar dinners to help us understand ourselves and to be at peace as we rest our heads on our pillow at night?

Most people who has monetary security, generally are swift to use it to do fun and elaborate things. Often, though, these kinds of clients tell me how unhappy they are in their relationships—so unhappy, that they can’t leave their old paradigms, because of all of the financial security they provide. In contrast, I have people who scrimp and save for one session a month or ask me to give them a discount, because they can’t afford a session. With these kinds of people, it seems that their paradigm of life is just as narrow. They spend so much time worrying about not having enough, that they, too, spend no time dreaming about or contemplating a better future.

I had a client a couple of days ago, who came to me with a rare illness that caused extreme pain at varying degrees during the day. As she described her pain, her eyes welled with tears. Later in the conversation, though, she began to share a story about her husband’s dream for her and their family. Her eyes quit tearing and she began to smile. I saw in that moment that she had the capacity to change her current pain model. I asked her if she felt pain while she was talking about her dream of the near future with her husband. Her answer, of course, was no. My thought was to help her change the triggers of neurological patterning of her brain to remember her good whenever she began to feel pain. This, of course, takes letting go of the belief that she will always feel pain, and even more importantly, making room for a truth that she hadn’t yet experienced. All of this is stretch for someone who spends little to know time contemplating life.

But, she, or anyone, can’t begin to understand how to make that shift in mind unless they make room for a dream or an idea different than the one they have now. This, to me, is the key to acquiring wisdom—making space for something you don’t know or something you don’t yet have in mind. You can’t fill a glass that is already full. Empty out what no longer serves you and make some room for wisdom!

I have a teacher and friend who says to start off every prayer with what you know. “This is what I know… God is in the ocean, the smallest particle in physics, and living, breathing and moving through me now…” As soon as I begin with a prayer like that, I have a solid place of understanding to build from. More importantly, I start with the expansiveness of the universe, which leaves me wondering about my connection to the Whole and keeps me wondering what my part is in this vast puzzle.

Bo Sebastian's Finding Authentic You!: How Do You Know if You Are Standing in the Shadow ...

Here are some ways to determine if you are standing in the light, or if you are standing in your own or someone else's shadow... Read on.

How Do You Know if You Are Standing in the Shadow of Someone Else’s Light? #CarlJung #spiritualadvice #spirituality #SOM #natureoflove

“Maybe the only thing each of us can see is our own shadow,” Carl Jung said, referring to shadow work in his psychological studies. Jung said we never see each other. Instead, we see only aspects of ourselves that fall over each other. Shadows. Projections. Our associations.
If what Jung says is true, then we aren’t standing in someone else’s shadow, we are standing in our own. And… the only way to get out of your own shadow is to turn towards the light.
So, in any given moment, the light of the sun only shines in one direction. If we face the sun, we are out of the way of our own shadow. If we turn to look away from the light, then the sun casts a shadow on everything we see.

Almost always, when we speak of light and shadows in prose, psychology, and even in spirituality, these are metaphors for Truth and the Past. In A Course in Miracles, we discover that every thing tangible is almost impossible to see without superimposing our old beliefs and thoughts on any given object. For example, when we see something for the first time, such as a chair, we see “with it” all the chairs we have ever experienced before.

The possibility of seeing that chair as something divinely unique and never experienced before would only happen if we erased the shadows of the past and all of the events that shaped our consciousness. Given these facts, the only way to see the truth and to see an unfettered future is to look away from the past, out from the shadows, and into the Light.
In this metaphor, the Light is the Law of Love or Spiritual Source, which is the foundation of the universe. You may wonder how you can tell the difference between facing the truth and turning away from it. Some people who are new to spirituality may not understand the difference. When you face the light or the truth, everything authentic in you rises! You see beauty, your flaws, and judge neither.

However, when you are in the shadows of the light, you see your flaws, the flaws of everyone around you, and you stand in judgment of all! The difference brings one either anxiety or peace. The choice to stay out of the shadow and enjoy peace seems simple, but most of us have held on to our anxiety for so long that we are afraid to let go. If we do, our fear is that we will also let go of our own identities. When in truth, letting go of an identity linked completely to anxiety would benefit you. Starting over and being able to make peaceful and loving choices would be a perfect new start for anyone. I would like to think that I begin each new day with this idea. Throw away the old and start fresh, everyday!

Today, simply try to imagine that you see all things anew. You wake up and taste your coffee. Close your eyes and taste something different. Use your imagination. Get dressed and wear something you haven’t worn before or in a different way. Part you hair in a different place. Quit living your life in the same way every day! Just this simple exercise will pull you out of your trance long enough to begin to see life outside of the shadows of the past.

Can Love Let You Down? #lovelessons #spirituality #SOM #natureoflove

To decide if love can let anyone down, we must, first, examine what we call love. To the secure mind, love is pure, true, a deep connection that must be discovered and worked on. To the anxious mind, love can appear to be someone desiring us with great passion or someone who loves enough to take our heart, but doesn’t follow through with promises. For the avoidant heart love is something that is never to be obtained. It is, in varying degrees, approachable, but not precious enough to hold to and honor.

As you can see, our definition of love is generally defined by how we have been loved in the past. If our initial story of love with our parents or guardians was one of abandonment, we may see love as anyone who will stay around, even if we are mistreated. If our initial story of love was about never knowing if our parent would be home or available, we would see love as something that we want, but expect little from. If we had a secure base to begin with, we may see love more clearly than the rest of the 75% of the world who had rough beginning with parents and guardians. Still, no parent was perfect, so even the most secure person would still have an eschewed vision of the purest form of love.

Love, by spiritual definition, is what supports the foundations of the world. God, as the energy of Source, is Love. If love lets us down at any moment of any day, there would be no world, no firmament, and no humanity. So, Love in its truest essence cannot let anyone down. But what we have called love in the past, can certainly fail us in so many ways.

Perhaps, we should stop using the word love in intimate relationships, all together, because what most of us see in any relationship, including parents, doesn’t seem to resemble the love that upholds the world. Most human beings have come from a long line of emotional attachments that have turned sour with a change of mind, a change of heart, and a change of situation. To that, we attach the word love, inappropriately. You cannot be in any intimate relationship without having disappointment.

But, you see, love in its truest essence is always the same. So, to expect love from any human being would be to ask humans to be God personified. Even if we begin to understand that we live and move and breath as the Spirit of God on this earth, we can’t actually BE God, embodied. This would taking our spiritual truth to the extreme and would tilt the balance of any mind toward narcissism.

Ernest Holmes says this succinctly (concerning being like God or Love): “This is a far-reaching thought and should be carefully scrutinized. It is to be taken figuratively and not too literally, for we cannot really become God, but we can and do partake of the Divine Nature, and the Universal does personify Itself through man (and woman) in varying degrees, according to man’s receptivity to it.”

Perhaps, we should just consider that true love is the highest calling and not even Mother Teresa would consider herself a giver of the most divine form of love. Because at Love’s essence, it holds the highest degree of expectation. Let us seek to be love’s conduit, embrace it, and hold it dear, but let’s stop calling intimate relationships—love. At our very best, we are seekers of the nature of love, conduits of fragments of love, but always fall short of being Love personified.
