The Threat of Cancer #cancer #fataldiseases #lifeafterdeath

The Threat of Cancer
#cancer #fataldiseases

I never much feared death, even as a child. So, when I checked into the hospital for a colonoscopy, I was more intrigued by the results than scared. Death seems as if it would be more of a stepping-stone into a grand adventure and bliss, than mere morbidity. I’m not sure how or why I feel this way, but I have carried this feeling into my adulthood, for different reasons, though. Now, human life is just difficult in so many ways. Every step, every relationship, every work situation has the possibility or threat of going awry. When you experience too many bad times in life, you begin to feel that bad is the norm, and good is simply an anomaly.

I would never take my own life, but if I had gotten diagnosed with a fatal disease such as cancer, I wondered if I would treat it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a death wish. Two days ago, I even went so far as to ask the colorectal surgeon not to tell my friend who accompanied me what my results were. I wanted the information all to myself, so I could chew on it and decide my own fate. Yes, looking back, it was a bit morbid, but, nonetheless, real and honest.

I don’t have too many friends or clients, for that matter, who haven’t, at least, thought about taking his/her life, once. Sometimes, the human existence is just too hurtful to fathom. You want out, and death would seem the easiest way. For me, though, the pain of death seems to scare me out of any delusion any time I’ve ever had ideations such as that.

And you say, “He’s a life coach. Even he has negative feelings!” Yes, of course, I do. What I learn most about being a life coach is that many of us feel exactly the same. However, what we do with our lives and our ideations is the difference between depression and health. If one has a proclivity toward depression, he or she should stay on an antidepressant to keep balance and stay away from the big highs and the way lows. Find a good psychiatrist and stick to your meds, especially, if you have a mental disorder. I stay on a low dosage of citalopram just to keep my serotonin levels normal, because I have the propensity to spiral low, especially during times of mucky, murky weather. Overcast days just take me to my lowest lows, sometimes.

So, my results were negative for colon cancer. Was I relieved? To be honest, yes. As a dear friend who felt as ambivalent about human life as I did once, told me, “You never know how precious life is until you get a death sentence. Then, you seem to savor every moment, even the bad ones.” Linda died of colon cancer about three years ago to the day. She had been one of my best friends for twenty years. I still grieve the loss.

Sometimes, I hear her voice calling to me from the ethers, “Come up higher, Bo! Come listen to the angels with me. It’s really amazing up here.” Then, she giggles like a little girl, as she always did, though she was in her late fifties. I wonder if her voice is merely my imagination, or if spirits really do exist outside of humanity. My extreme hope is that they do, because my entire life premise is based on that possibility.

The Awful Colonoscopy #colonoscopy #colorectalcancer #coloncancer

The Awful Colonoscopy
#colonoscopy #colorectalcancer #coloncancer

Yesterday I began my preparation for a colorectal exam that consisted of a liquid diet all day—Gatoraid, bouillon, jello, and any clear liquids. Then, at 6:00 p.m. I had to begin drinking 1/2 gallon of some God-awful lime drink that would make me evacuate my entire insides by daybreak. This morning I have to drink the other 1/2 gallon, beginning at 6:00 a.m. Needless to say, I was up all night. Oh my God. I’m in pain and exhausted, and I haven’t even had the rotten exam yet. The cycle began at midnight and still hasn’t ended.

The truth is: the odds are certainly in my favor to NOT get colon cancer, but the last time I took a friend to get his colon exam, he actually HAD colon cancer. And that was on the heels of one of my best friends dying within that same month of stage-four colon cancer—because she didn’t get the test. One year later, one of my best friend’s sisters died of the same disease because she thought the pain in her side would go away for a year. When the pain was severe enough, she had gotten the deadly diagnosis of stage-four cancer. I’m afraid to get the test, just like most people are afraid of the HIV test. Who wants to wait for a result that may be positive? Add to a simple waiting game, this 2-day evacuation regime, you begin to understand my agonizing remarks.

In this day and age, as we get older, we are more likely to get colon cancer. From 40 to 50 years old, our chances double. But, the risk is still 69 men and 53 women out of a 1000 will get colon cancer this year. Though these numbers don’t look daunting, when you have watched very healthy people suffer and some die from waiting for that colonoscopy, you tend to wonder why you prolonged your test.

All of my doctors are currently in a teaching hospital in Nashville, Vanderbilt University Hospital. It’s a great hospital with wonderful doctors. My Internal Medicine doctor, for the past 8 years, has been someone on a two-year rotation, still working under another supervising doctor. I like this because, then, two doctors get to check on my statistics. But, every two years, I have to get used to a new primary care physician. Even that isn’t so bad. Then, I get the opportunity for a new person so see me with a fresh set of eyes and an even newer understanding of medicine. I say all this because my physician is leaving in June of this year, and I promised him I would get a colorectal exam before he left his rotation. Today is the day.

Damn it, if I didn’t schedule the exam at noon. Now I have to wait all morning drinking only this terrible lime liquid that I will probably dream about for the next week. I’m not hungry, because I’m bloated from drinking so much. Truthfully, I don’t believe I have cancer. I haven’t felt anything wrong with me or have had any strange pains, which makes the process a little easier. I’m thankful for a dear friend who will go through this with me, as I had gone with a few friends in the past. That one solid rock praying for your health and knowing the best for you is important. If you go through this, make sure you have a good friend by your side.

Interestingly enough, there are ways to prevent colon cancer. They seem to resemble a heart healthy life: 1. Don’t smoke. 2. Take an occasional aspirin. 3. Avoid red meat. 4. Don’t binge drink. 5. Get enough calcium and Vitamin D. 6. Get your waist size down. 7. Eat black raspberries. 8. Exercise. 9. Get screened. 10. Know your family history. 11. Consider genetic counseling. 12. Drink green tea.

Let’s see, I do nine of those 12 things. I should be okay. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself. Knowing your self, your habits and your propensities to diverge from your own truths and dictums is all about finding your authentic self.

Finding Authentic You is a self-help guide with 365 Discoveries, meant to aid you in discovering all of your goals, understand your self and spiritual believe, discover the most distinct you, unlock all of your negative thinking, and help you replace it with positive, creative thought using many different modalities, including hypnosis, prayer, and psychology. Falling on a Nail #Accidents #predestination

Falling on a Nail
#Accidents #predestination

Yesterday, I had a handyman over to the house to fix an area of the outside shed that had rotten wood on the bottom edge. Before he fixed the area, he had to remove a 12-foot, 80 pound, large and heavy piece of wood that had nails 2 inches high sticking out, all over it. As I picked up the other old wood strewn over the yard and threw it in the garbage can 1 foot away, I saw the large piece of wood, the construction person told me was too large for even him to manage himself, laying in the yard by one foot from my fence. The piece of wood had the nails facing down, so I wasn’t certain the nails were even still in it.

I wanted to cut the grass, which meant I would have to move the wood. Well, I hadn’t moved the wood, so I had no idea of its density or danger or weight, so I began to pull it to a safe place. As I did, I slipped on the grass and dropped the wood on the opposite side with the nails facing up. I hit my head on the wood and almost knocked myself out. When I opened my eyes, a 2-inch nail was one inch from my right eye. As I turned over, my arm dislodged a nail from my shoulder, which had penetrated my shoulder into the rotator cuff. At that point, I began to black out. Everything became fuzzy around me, as I groaned and rolled onto my back.

Fortunately, my mother saw what happen and called a neighbor, who is a healthcare professional, as she is 81 and would be no good in the situation. My neighbor brought over things to clear out my wound and told me I would need a stitch or two, and that the depth of the wound would be dangerous and I would need a tetanus shot. So, we headed to a doctor or an ER, whichever was open on a Saturday evening at 5. In times like these one has trouble remembering anything. The brain had been deprived of oxygen and you feel woozy and in pain. Turns out, no independent healthcare facilities were open except CVS walk-in clinic and they won’t tend to a wound. (Don’t worry, I had just had a tetanus shot about 2 months ago, which I only remember as my dear neighbor helped me walk through the last time I got hurt and needed one.)

I say all this not for pity or compassion, but because my intention for that evening became completely eschewed. I was going to cut the grass and go to a birthday party at 6:30-7:00. Unfortunately, when I got home from my doctor excursion, all I could do was groan in pain with ice on my wound, I couldn’t move my arm up or down without severe pain. I’m going to get a colonoscopy on Monday, so I wasn’t allowed to have any anti-inflammatory. No birthday party, no anything until I felt better. So, what of my evening plans being changed?

As I replay the evening, I was dismayed that I didn’t get to see some old friends at a party. But, I wonder why it was so imperative that I didn’t cut the grass, and more importantly, why I WASN’T supposed to go to the birthday party… Who was there that I wasn’t supposed to see? Was a car going to crash into mine on the way to or from the party? Why was it so imperative my plans were blocked, so much so that I had to get hurt? And ultimately, was I simply not listening to Spirit by going to the party, in the first place. Should I have asked my heart if this was a good place to go? Many questions race through a mind as I tried to make sense of the evening.

In my book “Finding Authentic You,” in Discovery 5, I talk about the different views of spirituality: . What is God or the angels truly responsible in our lives or in the world? Are the small, individual events in our lives predestined or are do we have free will, and this was simply an accident? My personal view is that angels and spirit only intercedes when you are about to get hurt, are moving in the wrong direction, or need intercession of some sort to keep you on a path toward your purpose. So, with that belief, I had to assume that the evening was changed for a reason. This, also, takes away the sting of the wound, whenever I consider that something worse probably would have happened, had I actually done what I wanted to do. Below is a portion of Discovery 5 with the different worldviews of Spirit’s purview:
Ø  Molinism argues that God can know in advance what we will do, even though free will in the fullest sense of the phrase does exist, because God somehow knows how agents would freely act in any given circumstance.
Ø  Omnipotence seems to include the power to set a limit on what can be known. Moreover, God chooses to know and predetermine some things, but not others. This allows for humankind’s free moral choices.
Ø  Omniscience must include the choices humans will make or else God could not know anything after the very first human choice was ever made.
Ø  Presentism means that God knows everything that has ever happened, is happening and will happen.
Ø  "God is outside time" is a proposition that was first brought into existence by Thomas Aquinas and C.S. Lewis. This suggests that God’s perception of time is different, and that this is relevant to our understanding of our own free will.

Oscar Pistorius: The Ultimate Whodunnit Page Turner
#Oscarpistorius #pageturner #writingmystery #characterdrivenfiction #reallifemurders

When you listen to the news everyday to hear the latest version of Oscar Pistorius’ almost culpable homicide, it’s as if you’re reading a good murder mystery. The secret to keeping you interested are the twists and turns of the daily progress of the story and trying to guess what actually happened on that dark night when the beautiful Reeva was shot.

When a writer begins his/her journey penning a mystery of any kind, the author must constantly keep you wondering with plot twists and turns. But, even that won’t keep most of us holding onto that book. We need to be able to be sympathetic to one or more of the characters. Who couldn’t feel some compassion for a man with two prosthetic legs? The caring is built right into the plot. This is the same secret to writing a good novel. For example…

“Shoot the bastard once in the head and cut off his fourth finger. I want the finger and that wedding ring,” the boss had demanded. “And do it this afternoon before the lunch shift leaves.”

Killing Gio reeked of the foulest form of betrayal. Not because murder was depraved—everybody had to die some time. But Gio was family.

A trembling hand twisted the silencer onto the 9mm; a sleeve caught the sweat dripping from a solemn face. No subterfuge was required to gain access. Gio had undeniable trust and faith in the one assigned to this perfect murder.

Pistol concealed within a roomy linen blazer, a confused shadow of a person, riddled with guilt, walked down the hall toward Gio—hand steady—forcing each reluctant footstep forward.
Gio sat in the conference room in the subbasement level of Trattoria, the restaurant he owned since the death of his father, seven years ago. One entrance existed to this level, and only three people had the key. Gio trusted them all.

“Shoot him from behind, and he’ll never suspect a thing,” the boss had instructed. “He’ll just fall asleep. That’s it. Nothing else. No more pain. Just relief.”

The perfect way to die.

One last favor to Gio.
A glance at the new Rolex. The lunch-shift bartender would leave at 5:00, in less than fifteen minutes. One stop left, the doorway of the conference room.
Gio turned at the slight sound and grinned cheerfully. “Hey, you want to sign this card for my sister?” A large gift wrapped in shiny gold paper lay on the table. “It’s from everyone at the restaurant. Maybe it will cheer her up.”
“What did you buy the princess this time?”
Gio always thought his sister could do no wrong. He leaned forward in his high back, leather chair bearing a smug smile. “You know how everyone says she looks like a young Jacky O?”
“I don’t think so.” The assassin leaned against the doorjamb, now unable to hide a clear distaste for little Miss Deputy Attorney General.
“That’s okay.” Gio’s voice lost its vigor. “You don’t have to sign it.”
The trigger still felt cold from the gun having been hidden in the restaurant’s meat freezer. “No, finish. I’ll sign it.”
“Don’t force yourself.” Gio turned back to the table.
How perfect.
While Gio signed the sympathy card, the assassin took aim, steadying the gun hand, and squeezing the trigger.
In a millisecond it was done.
Gio’s brains drizzled onto the wall as if from an out-of-control painter with a spray gun. Flecks of blood sprayed the shooter’s face. Gio’s blood splattered over the table, seeped to the edge, then trickled a drop at a time to a growing puddle on the floor.
As Gio’s skull emptied onto Mary Elisabeth’s card and gift, the murderer gagged and spat, fighting a sudden wrenching pain deep within.
Gio’s head smashed to the floor; his limp, lifeless body followed.
No, he never suspected a thing.

This is the beginning of my murder mystery: Fatal Virtues, The Color Red, which is now available on Amazon at the link below:

Wrong Things, Right Things—You Decide What’s Right! #beinganadult #bettingonyourself #investinginyourdreams #lastdays #revelations

Wrong Things, Right Things—You Decide What’s Right!
#beinganadult #bettingonyourself #investinginyourdreams #lastdays #revelations

Have you ever thought about what is the difference between being an adult and being a child? The closest I’ve come to an answer is: Whenever you don’t need written laws or dictums to decide your life’s choices or whenever you can rely on your heart for the best and highest choice, you have entered adulthood.

We want our children to be able to make the correct choices. However, without the training and assignment of right and wrong, our youth will continually make bad choices. So, we give them laws. God decided the Jews needed laws as they travel Mount Sinai, because they were making bad choices for themselves and the community. So, Moses gave them the 10 Commandments, or first laws.

However, history tell us that Jesus came into the picture and said, “The Word (or the Law) will be written on our hearts in the last days…” Are the last days OUR personal last days on earth or EVERYONE’S last days, meaning that the last days are, perhaps, our final days on earth as mature adults? Though a “Revelations” experience may happen, it may not be what we have been taught by church leaders will transpire. Maybe, we have a little more control about our own end and the ability to make our own safe choices with our heart during our final days in this human existence. If so, that would make us adult children of Spirit, ready to use that charge card in Spirit’s name and move out of the law to find our Authentic Selves.

Life is about living from our hearts and experiencing from out deepest authentic self. I have recently had a new book published that is called: “Theoraphasz: God Speaks in the Final Days of Human Development.” If this subject intrigues you, you can get a copy on Amazon just by clicking on the link below:

Double Down, Split, or Fold? #betting #bettingonyourself #investinginyourdreams #Blackjack

Double Down, Split, or Fold?
#betting #bettingonyourself #investinginyourdreams #Blackjack

In many ways our lives can be a game of high stakes Blackjack, betting on the odds of winning or losing in some cases. When you play Blackjack, you have an option when you get your first two cards. If you have two of the same cards—a split—and those are aces or face cards and the dealer gets a five or below, the dealer is bound to bust (go over twenty-one and lose the game), and you have a great chance at doubling your bet and winning with two hands. Also, if you have two high cards that are not the same, and the dealer places his/her first card up and it’s below a six, you can “double down” and get one more card on each of your high cards, hoping you will get another high card and the dealer will bust, because of the likelihood of having to hit on a sixteen, usually will take the dealer over the maximum, twenty one. Again, this is how you monopolize and get more winnings in a game of luck called Blackjack, usually played at Casinos.

Every day, we either take chances on life or we “hold,” as in the game when you decide that you want no more cards. If you have a 12 on the first deal, you have a great chance at busting if your next card is a 10 or above. If the dealer has a high card, he or she has a great chance of winning, especially if the dealer’s other card is high. But you can’t see that other card. It’s facing down. You only see your cards and the one showing in the dealer’s hand. So, you must make a calculated bet. Do I hold and see if he wins, or do I take a chance at the deck dealing me something less than a 10? In most game of odds, if you are holding 12 or 13 and the dealer is showing a ten, then you are told the odds are better to take a hit. Even if you lose, the odds are still on your side to lose, so you might as well take the hit.

As our metaphor stands, in life we can get dealt bad cards sometimes, maybe most of the time. In the same instance, someone around us can get dealt great cards. Are we to take a chance and bet against the odds, or do we HOLD with our lives?

This is a great question in the high-stakes game of life. Today, I sit at my computer wondering what my next card will be. I have no idea. None of us do. You may be the Senior VP of a company and have a million dollar home. The next day, you may go into work and find that you have been fired in a company take-over. Your child can go out on to the street and get hit by a car. A hurricane or tornado can devastate a town in seconds. Last year, as I was watching television, the roof of my carport got swept up and off in the wind and got torn from the house. $9000 later, everything was okay with the roof. But at the same time, my BMW needed new tires, and had an oil and a transmission leak, another $5500. My home needed new plumbing, another 2000. My built in microwave broke—850. And my front tooth broke eating cereal—1700. All of this happened in two weeks. Suddenly, I was facing 19K of bills, when the week before I was completely financially solvent. I spent one year getting back to normal. No one expects devastation, but it happens. Did I try harder to make money? Indeed. Did I make more money, not last year. But the past few years I have made 20-30% more a year. Go figure!

My thought here is that no one knows what tomorrow will bring. No one knows the value of the card facing down in front of the dealer. Sometimes, we just live our lives fully, using our odds of being okay as a standard. You can’t hunker behind every test, assuming the odds will be against you, even when sometimes they are. You must be optimistic, or you will simply fold away your entire life and live in a safety zone. I see this time and time again in my clients. Some people have certainly had a bad time of it. But, most of them now take no chances with their hearts or finances. They choose to live in limbo—that Catholic spiritual state between heaven and hell.

After a terrible break-up or a sad situation like a friend’s death, you may sit on the couch for a month and sulk. But, eventually, a healthy person will find the strength to get back in the game of life, resisting the urge for homeostasis. If you suffer from this numb state of “do nothing, sacrifice nothing,” for too long, then you may want to seek counseling or get on an antidepressant for awhile. Unless we are willing to face life head on and flow with the change—bad or good—we end up dying spiritually.

Life is about living. Take a chance once in awhile. You’ll be glad you did.

Finding Authentic You, which is the name of my new book and self guide, is meant to help you find a way to get to all of your goals, understand your self and spiritual believe, discover the most distinct you, unlock all of your negative thinking, and help you replace it with positive, creative thought using many different modalities, including hypnosis, prayer, and psychology. Who or What Are You Waiting For?
#dreams #betterfuture #newthought #selfpublishing

My entire life I have been waiting for that one person to discover my talents and my abilities and make me famous? How many people, especially artists of all kinds, have felt that in your heart? Obviously, as artists, we haven’t had the means to build record or publishing companies, so we wait on managers, agents, and muckety mucks from big corporations to give us their stamp of approval, before we feel worthy to add our personal art to the conventional market. Suddenly, with this approval, we have made it! But what happens if we wait for 10-20 years, and no one takes us seriously, or we receive a modicum of success and then nothing? When the truth is, we have had the means to do all of this ourselves, but maybe didn’t have the knowledge, skill, or even the desire to market yourself.

Recently, after my last book was published, I noticed that I had SIX unpublished books, 10 unpublished CD’s, and one DVD that could be placed somewhere such as Amazon to be marketed worldwide. I thought someone or a company had to help me do that. In the past, before social and Internet buying had become the positive present.

However, as I went to websites and online help guides, I realized that the only move I had to take to get my work published was a step forward on my own two feet. In the past 10 weeks, I have been getting every one of my books, CDs, and my video ready for resale on Amazon and Amazon Kindle. The process isn’t exactly painless, but for someone who had been an editor for 12 years, most of what one needs to do, I have within my purview. So, I have decided to get my entire Web Store published and on sale on Amazon and Amazon Kindle within three months. That is my goal. I have about 1/3 of it ready to be placed online already.

As I have reread my novels and shared some of the books with close friends, I have realized that I have viable means for income that I simply left on the back burner to simmer for far too long. Even if only 10 people read or buy any of my CD’s, that’s way more than I have if the book is never seen.

I have had a clever idea about helping others, as well, to do the same. If you are in the space of wanting one of your books published or a CD or DVD marketed, just e-mail for some advice, and I will be happy to help you. (Bosebastian5@gmail.com)
