In Absentia #Healthcare

In Absentia #Healthcare

Most healthcare models treatment based on a provider being present during diagnosis. An interesting, fairly new model of healthcare arising out of the Internet craze is known as In Absentia Healthcare #inabsentiahealthcare or distance medicine. This occurs when the patient and caregiver are at different locations but still communicate by audio and video, or sometimes without any personal contact. (Wikipedia)

Most practitioners would argue that face-to-face care would be a prelude to the best treatment, but not all people can get up close and personal with the healthcare provider they trust. Even I have taken to doing Skype sessions and sending Hypnosis MP3s over the Internet for people who want my particular services and can’t find hypnosis or spiritual life coaching in their area. Yes, this is not the best form of care I can give, but I’d rather my clients have some care than none.

Also, more and more people consider on-line diagnosis with a Doc in the Box who can provide a quick and easy prescription for them. As long as these kinds of providers are not doling out pain and psychiatric medicine, I believe I may be okay with this model. I know of times in my life when I just needed an antibiotic to get over a sinus infection. Even a trip to the local CVS was out of the question because I confined myself to the bed. At that moment, I would definitely have considered in absentia healthcare. I would have to imagine that, as any Internet business, fraudulent practice happens more and more often. So, perhaps, establishing a personal relationship first and a yearly visit could make in absentia healthcare work. I know that even MyHealthatVanderbilt.com is based on the model I just described. I almost never have to go in for an appointment if the medicine I need prescribed has already been part of a diagnosis.

Truth be known, most of our lives are becoming #inabsentia. We have Facebook replacing one-on-one contact with almost all of our friends. I know that even I fail to get together with friends because I feel as though I am caught up with their lives through so many forms of online conversations and updates. This, too, is in absentia contact. Are we willing to move into a life where personal contact remains completely moot?

I know of some people who even have online relationships #inabsentiarelationships. My nephew has been in relationship with a woman from Australia for almost a year, and he lives in Tucson, Arizona. They Skype two to three times a day and plan for him to move to Australia to get married. What if he gets there, and she doesn’t click with his three-dimensional being? What if she thinks he smells? What if when they finally kiss or have sex, he is repulsed? All of these things are a possibility. I know, because I made that same mistake once.

I met a guy online a few years back. He seemed to be really nice. His pictures were cute. We started out chatting on Yahoo, then began to talk on the phone. Soon, we felt as if we were falling in love. How can you fall in love with someone you have never met? He lived in northern Florida and I in Nashville. Looking back, now, I can’t imagine how this happened. But it did.

He decided he was going to move to Nashville. Even I had the sense to tell him that he needed to find an apartment, and we could try dating once he made the move. He transferred his job here. The moment he got here, we got together. I had never been more repulsed by a person in my life. He smelled, he chewed tobacco, and had lost about 20 pounds since his last picture. He looked emaciated, smelled like garbage, and had a habit I could never get used to. I knew all of this in about ten seconds.

I did wonder how I could release everything that I thought about this person in one minute just from his personal appearance. I felt a bit shallow. But I couldn’t argue with the revolting feeling surging through my veins. When you make a strong choice like dating in absentia you better be careful that your date’s two-dimensional self matches his/her three-dimensional self. Fortunately, Skype makes that more possible. But, I still believe moving somewhere for a person you have never met in person is a lot ludicrous.

A Year to CLEAR Challenge:
(Please Know: You Can Join Us At Any Point in the Year Challenge.)

The masses search outward for things that qualify them as a person, but I always go inward for that which quantifies me for greatness. At twenty-five I preached on street corners in NYC as an in-the-closet Pentecostal minister. One day I heard a still small voice say, ‘God cannot be contained in a book or a law or even in a religion. Dig deeper, reach further to find me, and you will find your authentic Self.’”

A Year to CLEAR Challenge!

The acronym CLEAR stands for (Compassionate, Loving, Enthusiastic, And Relationship-Ready). The goal of this project is to engulf readers in a weekly study that will transform them by removing blocks, promote self-growth, and give them wings to fly freely into daily life. Each week, by going to BoSebastian.com and choosing the Year to CLEAR Challenge tab, a new challenge or thought to provoke conversation, growth, and group functionality.

My vision is to make Finding Authentic You the book to have in your Kindle or on your computer. The book is a comprehensive look at growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically.

As a yoga teacher and student of the Ayurvedic tradition, I bring to the table understanding of physical challenges, the ability to overcome mental problems with Life & Health Coaching, as well as hypnotherapy, and expertise in meditation and spirituality as a minister.

The combination of all three in one book with an interactive connection to like-minded readers, for one year, is what makes this Year to CLEAR Challenge a must-do for every spiritual seeker.

The One-Year Approach to Change

No one believes he or she can change overnight. But success in change comes from the metaphors of nature. Seasonally, life changes all around us in nature. Finding Authentic You offers a gradual change perspective, looking at the triune aspects of change as in yoga: Body, Mind and Spirit.

Accessing the ability to change and finding yourself actually pursuing change must be a daily search, which I call getting to the “observer mind.”

In this frontal cortex of the brain we find the anatomy of change and the power to counter every negative trigger of the human process. The workings of Hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) are all positive actions to help the mind and body flow to a positive space for change.

Every aspect of FINDING AUTHENTIC YOU fulfills this constant need for diffusing the negative past and dreaming of a fulfilling future.

Step 1: Recognize That Change is Inevitable
Step 2: Release from Resistance to Change
Step 3: Understanding Change and Allow Spirit to Define It
Step 4: A History Lesson—About You
Step 5: Look at Your Past with Compassion
Step 6: Making a Strong Commitment to Change
Step 7: Dream Your Fabulous Future
