From the Other Side: Compassion #compassion #feelingenergy #spiritualadvice #livingtruth

Compassion comes in many packages. One of the greatest ways we can use our compassion is to imagine what another person feels, thinks, or why she is acting a specific way. This kind of compassion deflects our own need to fight back, retreat, or explain our opinions in the face of a seemingly negative attack or action.
As a life coach, often I will have an opinion about a client’s choice. I always have to ask myself if it is necessary for me to voice that opinion or for the client to come to the conclusion on his own, with some good advice.
I have realized that when I come down too hard on anyone with an opinion, I sound like I am dictating, not advising. No one ever feels good when they are treated as if they are wrong. Even children, want to feel as if we always have come to our own good conclusions.
So, the trick in dealing with your children, your spouse, or your best friend is to never stick your nose too deeply into their decisions before you are asked. And, even when you are asked, remember your words could come back to bite you in the butt. If, for instance, you help a friend leave a spouse, and that same person returns to the relationship. Every bad word you have ever said about the spouse is still out there in the universe waiting to come back at you.
Even our opinions about addiction and any bad behavior can come back to us, especially if a person who has been sober for 10 years and decides to start drinking again. That friend, though he or she has been your best buddy as a sober person, may decide that your friendship is dependent upon your ability to accept them as they are.
Am I saying that we should ALL keep our opinions to ourselves? Well…
How many times has voicing your opinions really changed another person’s point of view? There is a real difference between living your truth and ranting. Honestly, I’ve learned to keep my opinionated side out of life and stick to Truth. Live it! Share it! And you will never have to take back your words.
Today is not an easy spiritual lesson. Listen a little harder! Try to understand the reason a person says or does something. In so doing, should your response be one of total acceptance and love? Or, should you express your distaste and risk losing a close friendship?
I believe you will find this exercise interesting, as this is a balancing act with your own ego as well as a spiritual lesson in compassion.
