Getting Older & #Staying Relevant #spiritualadvice #relationshipadvice #newthought #ageism

Besides our waning health, loosening skin, loss of interest in current music, and enjoying sitting and doing nothing more than ever, can you say that your life as someone who is growing older is still relevant?
Just a mere 20 years ago, the average male would live 10-15 years after retirement and a woman would live about 5 years longer than that. Now these figures have almost doubled. We are either taking better care of ourselves or modern medicine is interceding and taking better care of us. Nonetheless, we must look at the second stage of our lives as an Encore Career rather than retirement, otherwise we won’t stay relevant in a world that insists we have a voice and a purpose to stay among the living.
What is older anyway? I feel younger than ever in my mind and heart, even though I’m 55. I look at myself in the mirror and see that the only difference in myself is the gray hair. That wouldn’t even be there if my acting agents didn’t think I was a silver fox and wanted me to get older roles. Interestingly though, as a result of living with my salt and pepper hair has made me embrace getting older in a new way. I like it more than I expected. I feel more appreciated and honored in a world that expects professionals to have more experience.
Just feeling young doesn’t mean that our lives are relevant. We look at the millennials with all this energy and the desire to fight for causes. I, on the other hand, would rather give money than go out and fight. I think my fighting-for-causes days are over. However, I can stay relevant in different ways.
One very important way to stay relevant is to be able to connect with our youth in a way that steers them in the right direction without annoying them. One of the most important parts of my life is being a role model for the young people around me. I love them and try hard to allow them in my life more than ever. This way, I know that what I share in my blog and in my books from my years of hard knocks has been worth it. The youth get it in a way and can pass it on in a way that I never did when I was younger.
What about the children? This is a question I hope we ask ourselves as we get older. How is our life impacting them? How can we make our truth available for those who want to learn?
Can you start a class? Can you reach out to your grandkids? Can you mentor a young person? I’m sure you can think of other wonderful ways to keep your important life lessons alive!

This year, if you desire to commit to a change for a New Year’s Resolution, do it with your MIND first. Remember, as in the title of my new book coming out just in time to help you with this (in March)… lol… that all change happens in your mind, first. You must change your Old Story, to make a consistent and long lasting change in Your Life.
