Am I Doing All I Can Do?

As there has been some transition in my life lately, I asked God this morning if I was on the right path in my career. Sometimes when we make choices that don’t work out in relationships, we question all the choices in our life. This was my case.

Breathless and sullen, I became teary, as I drove to my yoga class this morning. I asked for a message that I was on the right path…

I had left my house earlier than usual this morning, so I did things a little differently when I got to the YMCA. I usually punch in then get dressed and wait outside my classroom for it to become available. But this morning, I dressed first, went to punch in and ended up sitting upstairs with a woman who has been taking my class for over a year. She has been consistent and regular in that time period. She gets there early for meditation and stays for the savasana meditation afterward, but rarely stays to talk.

This morning, though, she was sitting on the bench where I usually sit before class. So, I sat and chatted with her. I asked her what she did for a living. She was a little timid in sharing. “I’m in politics.”

I wondered if I should pry a little more. “What exactly do you do?”

She shared that she was the Speaker of the TN House of Representatives.

In that moment I had the realization that God answered my prayer from in the car that morning.

The truth in that moment was that exponentially, it was very possible that two days a week, my voice, my words and my encouragement to be peaceful and to be in right relationship with spirit was moving through a woman who had the capacity to lead an entire group of people, representing an entire state. How beautifully God answered my prayer. Especially, since she was so kind to say how my class centered her every week.

I looked her up on the Internet when I got home. We couldn’t be more diversely attuned in politics. But in matters of the spirit, we mesh. And for three hours a week, she takes the time to listen and to adhere to words that spirit speaks through me, perhaps, directly to her, to help her lead the entire state.

I feel blessed and honored today for my little part in the whole.
