I Just Don’t Feel Like Believing #spiritualadvice #DivineMind #ScienceofMind #SOM #SpiritualLiving

Have you ever woken up and just felt like sleeping in, not trying, and giving into every subtle influence around you? When you do so, do you feel as if this is contrary to your belief in yourself, God, or your spiritual walk?

I am a very methodical person. I like routine. In fact, I prosper and create best when I have a specific routine set up for myself every day. I do make a point of giving myself a day to take a break from that routine. This is called REST, just in case you have never heard of the word or have NOT allowed it in your vocabulary. Workaholics tend to resist this word completely, which inherently would produce many more days like the one I described above.

We have to let go sometimes and release from all resistance. Yes, it is okay spiritually to do so. “Let Me Fall!” the song says, “And if I will fall, someone or something will catch me.”
But, even in our times of giving up the struggle, we are always in the shadow of the Almighty force of love that guides us, loves us, and keeps us from straying too far from the light. I know this to be true in my life with certainty.

For instance, recently, I had a setback. I wanted to just crawl in bed and stay there all day for about three days. In fact, I did stay in bed the first day and let myself feel all of the grief that came up. However, I did match this grief with recordings that I knew would encourage my soul to feel its pain, but believe in a power greater than the tangible. I even repeated some of the words to myself as I listened to the mantras of faith and hypnosis recordings I made for myself to increase my belief in the positive nature of Creative Mind. Affirmations are great at times like these. They supplement your soul with the care and medicine it needs, in times of stress.

Even though, at times during the day, I thought I had no hope left, the truth was I had great hope beneath my pain. There was the belief that every prayer, every affirmation, every announcement of truth that I had ever spoken or prayed continued to produce in kind, even though my human self was filled with grief and stopped believing for a moment.

If we go back to our metaphor of planting seed thoughts into the garden of the Mind, then we know that there will be days when the sun is so hot that ours plants, growing in the garden of the mind, look as though they have dried up and died, or that the rain comes down in torrents and seems to smash all the plants as if a giant had walked through our garden with four-foot, spiked boots.

During those times, we wait for the torrents to stop then help the plants to regain their structure. If the plants were too dry, when the sun goes down, we water them until the earth is rich with moisture again. The next day, alas, the plants are fine. The same is true with our seed thoughts and the dreams of our future in the mind of God.

There will be times, always, when things do not go our way. But that doesn’t mean that all we have sown, all we have worked for, and all that we have dreamed of has been for naught. No, of course not. The roots of those plants we have sown in the Mind of God are still in tact and growing, even when the tops of the plants look worn and dead.

With a little care and time, you and your dreams will be back on track. Take care of yourself today!

Part II of “Fly as Fast as Thought” #soulflight #whatstrending #learnmeditation #spiritualliving

Researchers show that 50,- to 70,000 thoughts go through any individual’s mind per day and 35 to 45 thoughts a minute surge through our busy brains. Yesterday, I posed the question: How do we control what comes in and out of our minds in any given minute?

The change in the stimulus to the brain comes from two modalities: self-inquiry and meditation, which allows your mind to go from a cognitive, reasoning place (1 + 1 = 2) to a nonreactive place or the creative center of the brain (imagination) we’ll call the Observer Mind. Today, we’ll focus on meditation.

For most people, they throw up their hands and say, “I’ll never be able to quiet my mind, so I’m not even going to try.” But the process of switching the gears in your mind is actually very simple. It takes practice, though, which is why meditation is required. You go to the gym or spend quiet time reading. Just schedule 10-15 more minutes into your day for meditation. Even ten minutes each morning, before you get out of bed, can change your entire day. Trust me on this! I’ve seen lives completely change as a result of ten to fifteen simple minutes and these easy exercises.
  1. Sit up. If you lie down while you are trying this, you will usually fall back to sleep. The objective is for the BODY to fall asleep, but the CONSCIOUS MIND to stay aware and awake. So, you actually are aware enough to feel the weight of your own humanity roll off of you while you meditate. This feeling of weightlessness is pure delight to the soul. When you get to this space in meditation, you will realize immediately, why so many people swear by this practice.
  2. I use an APP from my phone called Insight Timer. It’s a free APP that rings a gong or a bell in intervals, to keep you alert, incase you happen to nod off. I set my app for every 3-4 minutes. Make sure the bell or gong is loud enough to wake you, but not to scare you.
  3. Set an intention. This part of the process, many people miss. Their intention is simply to quiet the mind. However, as we have seen, the mind has its own agenda, thinking voluminous amounts of thoughts without our deductive reasoning. So, don’t focus in on “no thoughts.” Focus in on a particular thought or dream that fascinates you. For me, I love to think about the energy that creates new universes. I imagine this God energy comes from my heart center and flows into new worlds and planets. So, I’ve connected my own spiritual energy to my intention. This is important.
  4. For a long time, my goal was to get out of my body and to fly with abandonment in meditation. I had experienced this feeling a few times before, where I had flying dreams. It was so amazing that I wanted to feel it over and over again. But, meditation is more about connecting your humanness to God Consciousness. So, focusing in on one part of your body while sitting, actually grounds you and allows you to experience a heavenly, spiritual place, while still in the human body. This is the goal. Meditation would be of no earthly good if it were only meant to tease us with what heaven might feel like. We live on earth and must spend 24-hours a day functioning as spiritual humans. So, the goal is quite the opposite: Finding a spiritual place to go in our human state!
  5. Lastly, when your insight timer goes off, have a few words that you say to yourself (without speaking aloud) that are a positive affirmation. A few examples may be: “My day already is perfect and wonderful.” “Nothing can take away the love that is Me.” “Prosperity flows in and through me always.” “My body is whole and free of all disease.”
Tune in tomorrow for my last part of this series. I’ll explain the dynamics of self-inquiry.

What Is Fired Together, Is Wired Together #neuralpathways #psychology #anxiety #divorce

I had a dream about a time when I was seven or eight. All of my siblings went to the local swimming hole, but I felt sick and stayed home. However, my mother, with a crisp dollar bill, coerced me to walk to a candy store that was about a 1/2 mile away. Instead of feeling sick, suddenly, I felt better. All I could think of for the entire hour it took to walk to the store, choose my goodies, and then walk home alone was how lucky I was to have stayed home and had been the recipient of that one dollar bill. (In 1968, one dollar was a lot of money to buy a great deal of junk for a child.)

When I returned home, my mother and all of her belongings were gone from the home. She had left my father. I suddenly realized why she wanted me away from the home. Internally, I had never completely understood what I had felt in that moment had why it had impacted my entire life. Yes, I realized it affected my relationship paradigm. But, what I didn’t know was something even simpler and ultimately physical: The junk and the candy I had eaten had caused me to feel sick to my stomach, as did the situation. So, as a result, whenever I get nervous about rejection or abandonment of any kind, my stomach aches, as if it were that same moment forty years ago.

I called a psychologist friend of mine and asked if he knew of any techniques to disengage such a physical response to an old emotion. He said, he wanted to think on it, but his first impression was: what is fired together is wired together. In other words, the brain synapse had already been fused, and good luck with disengaging from the emotion or the feeling, which has been my life quest!

As a clinical hypnotherapist, for almost twenty-five years, I sat across from thousands of clients who felt similar feelings about food, relationships, abandonment, and ultimately PTSD moments like mine. As I led each of them through techniques (mostly hypnotic), most clients felt some relief. But, the truth about any technique that distorts or changes the pathway of a neural pathway firing, is that you must continue to do these techniques every time you have the feeling. Otherwise, the body acts as if you have felt this emotion or physical pain for the first time. It’s an autonomic response that fires even before your cognitive mind knows what has happened.

In some ways, knowing that the physical feeling and the emotional feeling are automatic and caused from an old scenario does help me to put my current situation and feelings into perspective. If you can step away from any feeling you have and observe it and your body, you always have a bigger opportunity to make change.

I have been researching this, lately, so, keep reading the blog, because I’m likely to come up with something that will help even more than hypnosis. Spirit would not have us stay emotionally helpless for our entire lives. There is an answer out there. If anyone of my readers has a good suggestion, let me know. I’d be happy to share.

What Fills Your Mind, Fills Your Life #consciousness #divinemind #anxiety #stress

Since I was a small tike in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, I have always been the kind of boy who barely listened. Instead, I looked around for a place to escape. I filled my mind with the idea that I always needed a secure space to hide in case of danger, which always seemed to happen. From alcoholic outrage to parental fights to physical and emotional abuse, life was plagued with the IDEA that no safe haven existed for me—not even in my mind.

Even as an adult, holding on to negativity is one of my worst habits. If someone harms me, I find myself slipping into rancor and hateful, vengeful thoughts, taking up for myself, because I simply couldn’t do that as a child. But, now, the habit is to fill my mind with negativity so I don’t have to look at my own issues of drawing negativity to me, holding it there, and acting as if it’s normal.

I look at a plastic bottle of water sitting empty on the table. I have the opportunity to throw it away, refill it with some water from the spigot, or fill it with purified water from the filtration system. Which would you choose? Most often in life, we tend to fill the bottle with caustic, sink water because it is free, easy, and most available. But, if the bottle is full with just any kind of water, we have no opportunity to fill it with pure water that may be better, healthier, and more pleasant to the taste. The mind is similar in nature.

If the mind is full of angry, stressful thoughts, or even a deluge of work to do, then no time exists for self-assessment, which is necessary to stay healthy, and more specifically, to grow spiritually and mentally.

I have a friend who screwed me over last year and really hurt my feelings. Instead of holding out for revenge, I took the high road and became vulnerable, which I thought was growth. “What you did really hurt me,” I said to him. “I trusted you, and you treated me like I was an inanimate object!”

To his detriment, his theory from AA is to apologize without even thinking. “I hurt you. You shouldn’t trust an addict. We will always hurt you, because we love our addiction more than we love our friends and family. Forgive me.”

I spent a month or two avoiding him and taking leave of the friendship, but eventually let him back into my life to tell me his story and to create some closure. But, what I noticed was that he continued to treat me like a tool the entire time we continued our friendship. He was perfectly nice, helpful, but never gave, only took emotionally. When he shared from the heart, he was usually telling me what I do wrong. Eventually, I had to cut my ties.

The reason I stopped seeing him was to protect myself. But even more importantly, I had to put a halt to the thought process that went along with me keeping this person in my life. I filled my mind with guilt thoughts about not being able to do the Christian thing and forgive. I imagined our relationship working out a different way. I considered that maybe he could love me, even though… yada yada yada.

In other words, I kept my mind full of the past. So, what do you think my bottle of water looked like after a month of this? Full, yes, but muddy and murky. Eventually, I had to empty the bottle or throw out the bottle so that I would be able to allow something better and more secure into my life. I deserve better. You deserve better. But our thoughts are the very thing that can prevent good from coming into our life—simply from holding on to the past.

Today, when you think of anything from the past that colludes in your mind, simply stop and tell the thought, “You have taken enough of my time, my life, and my energy! I let you go and allow myself to be open and vulnerable to the NOW, knowing that good and the best is always available for me at any moment. I am One in God. God is founded in pure love and exponential energy to create new and secure relationships for me always. I trust in that spiritual law.

Crisis Consciousness #anxiety #stress #energysuckers #boundaries

Crisis Consciousness
#anxiety #stress #energysuckers #boundaries

Joe typically has a great deal on his plate. He tends to let people and important jobs slip through his fingers, because the only part of his life he ends up managing is the Crisis in front of him—and he has many. I spoke with him, recently. Since he moved out from his loving relationship to build a self-secluded life (he felt his relationship kept him from autonomy), he has had to move six times in two years, each time adding a roommate (which was completely opposite of his initial desire); he has had 3 different jobs, and has had financial difficulty at every turn. As you can see, Joe is addicted to Crisis Consciousness.

In the business of Life Coaching, many people don’t understand how to move out of this consciousness. They feel crisis follows them around like bad herpes syndrome, always popping up when they are most stressed. As it stands, the anxiety in Joe’s life is never ending. I’m not surprised he has heart problems, because the first organ that is attacked during stress is the heart.
So, how does Joe go from Crisis Consciousness to Christ Consciousness? Joe isn’t much of a religious or spiritual person.

This isn’t a problem. Christ simply means anointed. Just replace the word. His mind has to change, because life doesn’t change around him, unless he can manage to see change in his mind, first. Circumstances come into his life as a result of cause and effect. If he moves out of a secure place, into a place that he can’t afford, because he subconsciously wants to self-sabotage a solid place of security, then moving into an unsafe place was his decision. So, the following problems in his life happened as a result of first cause. Joe doesn’t surprise me, as he now wants to go back to the original situation he left—having a secure partner and a safe place to be. He realizes now, much too late, that he made some bad choices in the past couple of years.

So, how does Joe change his consciousness and begin right where he is in the present?

1.  Admitting his mistake and honoring his human decision to want to be in a place that felt comfortable is the first item on the list. You must understand why you make poor choices, so that you can try to NOT make them again, as your life changes for the better.

2.  Learning to ask for guidance is also an important factor. Most people who are completely crisis driven, never take the time to do anything but complain about their circumstance. After much trying to dig himself out of a hole, Joe asked me for advice. I was very specific, because I could see clearly that his family consistently dragged him into crisis WITH them. I told him he needed to make clearer boundaries with family, only helping them out, when it was absolutely imperative. Otherwise, he must leave them to their own demise and let go of their dependent behavior. Remember: You can only have a dependent, if YOU are a Co-Dependent! I may have to give you different advice, but I suggest finding a therapist or Life Coach who can help you manage your life with a positive surge into your own personal power. If you can’t afford a coach, try reading my book: Finding Authentic You, which will give you daily, affirming ways to change your life for the better. If you have a computer or Kindle, you can buy the book as a download for only $3.99. That’s not much to invest in your life.

3.  The most important factor is this: believe in a power greater than Crisis. Believe that Spirit or your life situation is always willing to change if you are. I promise you, your decisions will become clearer, as you rid your life of the energy sucking problems, and stick to making positive choices, even when they try to lure you back with guilt and promises to help—which never works.

You may have to sit in your own bad choices for a short while, as you solve problems. You may have to go without for some time, while you put your finances back in order. But, the Author and Finisher of your life is willing and always ready to help manage you, if you get out of the way and begin every day with a meditation. Clearing the mind of the problem and becoming an observer, helps you put your situational issues in perspective, no matter if you are spiritual or not. (You can find many discoveries on my blog about meditation, if you search in FindingAuthenticYou.com and just type in the word.)

Yesterday’s Anxiety Is Today’s Lesson #stress #life’slessons #struggle

Yesterday’s Anxiety Is Today’s Lesson
#stress #life’slessons #struggle

Never has the purpose of life been more apparent than in these past few weeks, waiting to make the biggest move of my life to Florida after 25 years of living in Nashville. I sit in my grief, sometimes for hours, asking for answers that usually don’t come. But, yesterday, something lifted from me. I knew in the moment it happened, that everything around me, even my negative story would change. (Nothing in my immediate reality looked different, but I know that I know something changed spiritually.) When I return to the moments of my recent past, I see lessons, not pain. I experience deep-taught purpose, not anxiety. I move forward with ease, because of spiritually chiseled-0ut paths that lead me, without remorse. to my new life.

As a life coach, I have dealt with many people’s anxiety and pain. Most people start telling their story. Tears fill the room. I sit calmly, not anxious to embrace “their story” as my story. I’m curious, compassionate, and often caring, if I need to be. But, I realized long ago that the only way to help someone is to know a different story for that person. Most people in anxiety have rehearsed their pain over and over again. They feel as if they have no other choices but to live in this exact story over and over again.

The answers to your anxiety do not exist in your old story; they exist in your new story—the one that you haven’t written yet. So, to absolve and extinguish pain, you must experience it, grieve it, and see a different resolve. You may be asking, “How do I step out of a place where I have no money, can’t pay my rent, and don’t see myself being able to afford food for the next two months?” That’s a good question.

I’m not the one who gives the answers, though. Your answer comes when you get quiet and you ask the hard question: WHY? A reason ALWAYS exists for the trial you bear. Trust me on this! I have never had a problem that didn’t require faith and a new outlook on life. Once this happens, I can look back at the issue and see the perfect lesson Spirit had crafted.

Fear and anxiety become a wall of disbelief that stops the truth from changing your life. I have a good friend now dealing with issues about finance and work. Of course, every day, when he gets to his job, his anxiety increases. He must meet a certain demand to get money, but the ability to acquire new business just simply doesn’t exist. So, he gets frazzled everyday and can’t find the faith to stop fearing the worst. Yesterday, however, he had a breakthrough. He told me that he had decided not to bite into the story that is playing out in his financial and work life. He will sit and watch it and see where it leads him. He told me that he would be compliant with the answer. If things changed at the job, he will stay there. If they don’t change, he may be required to move to something different—maybe even a new city.

I believe my friend has done his spiritual and psychological duty to release anxiety. I simply see for him the fear of the present situation lifting to unveil his new outlook. I know for certain his circumstance is only there to teach a lesson. When the lesson is learned, and he acquiesces to God or spirit, all things become new—even his thoughts.

Anxiety and fear is simply a disbelief in God. If you truly believe that God is “the author and finisher of your faith,” (Heb. 12:2) then you will trust that “all things work together for the good of those called according to God’s purpose.” (Rom. 8:28)

The Breathtaking Leap to Safety—A Picture of Anxiety

The Breathtaking Leap to Safety—A Picture of Anxiety

I am running scared, my heart racing out of my chest. Adrenaline surges to every limb, especially to my mind where the worse scenarios begin to develop like film slipping in an old projector. Who is after me? Will I live or die, or worse yet be tortured to the last breath of my life? Will I feel pain? Will I have the courage to endure?

I come to the end of the road. A deep hole the size of my body has been ripped from the center of the road as if an earthquake had occurred. All I can see is a very deep, immeasurable drop, where surely I would die if I were to jump. I must leap over to safety if I have a chance at living.

Do I leap? Do I take a chance and hide from what I think is pursuing me? Or do I collapse into the hole to my demise?

People with anxiety suffer from this kind of panic almost every day. Sometimes the adrenaline gets so intense their heart feels like it can explode, and yet, they have no idea most times what it is they are suffering from and why. This is an example of a panic attack.

Some people get them when they are facing a particular fear. Some people get them when they have no idea what they are facing. Usually that means the person involved hasn’t really taken the time to go to therapy to find out what is hiding under the panic.

I liken panic and anxiety to coming home and finding a ferocious lion in your front yard. You rush to the door and grapple for your keys. The keys drop. Your panic heightens. You finally get the key in the door and you slam the door shut before the lion has a chance at attack.

You call FEMA. But as FEMA is going to take 20 minutes to come, the lion begins to slam into the front window. You look for places to hide in your house. How many doors can you put between you and the danger of that lion succeeding in breaking through the window to harm you? How much space can you put between you and your fear—is the real truth?

So, as the person with anxiety begins to unfold the story of truth to him/herself and sees what he/she is running from, you begin to see why it takes so much energy each day to create the barriers they need to stay protected from the danger. Some people choose food and gain tons of weight to create a literal barrier between life and their perceived outside fear. Some choose substance abuse to keep them from ever having to face what it is that is chasing them.

But the real courageous person realizes that he/she can’t continue to run his/her entire life. She must stop and discover what this enigma is and either fight it or leap over it or let it destroy her. No other choice exists. The real fear is inside and must be obliterated.

I talk a lot about self-hypnosis and the ability to become a conscious observer of the human condition in all of us. This type of diagnosis—anxiety—is one of those psychological malfunctions of the body and brain that need this kind of compassion that only the observer can give it. No other person but you can see what it is that you are running from.

So, learning the tools of self-hypnosis can save your life if you have an anxiety disorder. Trust me, I know this from experience. I used to wake up with my heart racing like I could run a 500K sprint and win. What pursues you always feels like a shadow following you from behind until you wrestle with it and win.

I’m here to tell you that anxiety is a thing of the past for me and it can be for you too. Meds are great, but they can’t relieve the entirety of the mental process that created your fearful profile. You must unfurl the problem and get to its roots to have a chance at living a life that is free of anxiousness and stress. Though it may seem like your problem is outside of you, it is always an internal trigger caused by something in your past that changed your life forever. Let’s find it together.
