The Morning After #morningafterpill #mom

The Morning After #morningafterpill #mom

When I was in high school, two popular young ladies got pregnant at 15 and 16 years old. I remember how ostracized they became. In those days, most parents had a protocol: you hide for a while, give birth, put the child up for adoption, then go back to your life without speaking a word about it. Most of all: You become a born-again virgin, not even looking at men until you finish high school. Both of these girls were not popular when they came back to school.

I’m not sure what high school today looks like, but as a viewer of the popular show “Mom,” children have more options, and parents tend to help their children raise their babies. But the picture about sex is: Most high school kids are having it. So, we better teach them ways to prevent pregnancy or home school them until they are 18 years old. I know of a few teenagers who are very involved in their church and joined a celibacy club. But, as I have been a teacher of these same 15-16 year olds, I  know the truth about their lives. I was the one they confessed to, because the obvious parents were way too judgmental to be a compassionate voice of reason. Very few teenagers, if any, truly stay celibate once they meet that first love.

Love and sexuality are more like trying to eat one delicious sweet from the cookie jar, and then close it for the night. Most adults go back for more and more. Let’s face it, these days, at 15, we are more adult than we want to admit. I remember when I was 15 years old. Though it was completely taboo, I had a couple times. My four sisters were all dipping into the cookie jar as well throughout high school and their late teens. I guess, we weren’t the prudes. But, I think we all suffered for it.

I’ve discussed Attachment Theory in detail (refer to other blogs about this subject if you’re new to the blog). Because my mom left my dad when I was in fourth grade, and I didn’t see her again until 10th, my attachment became anxious—very anxious. I believe all of my family had a rather anxious attachment as a result. So, to keep the person we were interested in close, we thought sex was necessary. This anxious attachment superseded all of anyone’s religious beliefs. Your action is out of fear, not a desire to be moral or godly.

I believe, if you look at childhood pregnancy, you would probably find that most of these young adults have had trauma resulting in anxious attachment. If a young girl is anxiously attached, she will probably acquiesce to fear over any religious belief out of the deep need to be loved and held. So, having sex would be more about the man having better morals than the girl and not pushing sex on her. We all know, though, that, even with the best young man, he is probably dreaming night and day of having sex, so expecting him to act wisely is ludicrous.

The morning after pill was designed to help those who have unprotected sex, and then realize they have made a mistake, afterwards. The marketing slogan is even: “Accidents do happen!”

Yes, we tripped and fell into coitus. Now, I need a band-aid.

What exactly does this pill do?

Levonorgestral is used in two 12-hour dosages or one stronger dosage. It’s not to be mistaken for Abortifacient, which was called the “abortion pill” when it first came out. The Day After Pill is not a prescription and can only be used for 3 days after unprotected sex. It does not kill HIV or any other sexually contracted disease. It simply causes a fertilized egg to become unfertile by manipulating estrogen and progestin, which releases the egg from the body during menstruation, from what I gleaned on the Internet.

If you have children in high school, especially girls, do you believe you should provide the proper talk, provide condoms, birth control pills, and the day after pill for them, incase of Emergency Sex?

Being a parent is hard at any time. But, loving a teenager can be difficult, when they suddenly decide they are making the harder decisions in their lives on their own with the little morals you were able to help them digest when you have been less than a role model. You can chain them to the bedroom, cut them off financially, or give them the tools to survive through their harder decisions. I hate to say it, but after all this research, I guess I’m going to be for giving the kids the pill. But, I’d also really have heart to heart talks about what adding sexuality to a relationship does to your soul and mind at a young age. Being honest is the most important aspect of raising a child in a place where all of them have Internet on their phones.

Today at the Bank

Today at the Bank

Yesterday, I gained back .6% of my body weight, simply by eating a ½ piece of pizza and some gluten free pasta for dinner, and eating 2 yogurts instead of 1 in the evening. We want the interest we get on our hard earned wage (whatever that is, diet, relationship, financial) to be exponentially better than when we began our trek toward effective change. However, sometimes, you get a bit of a set back. Here’s why…

Psychoanalysts studying the brain during weight loss and change, talk about the need for the body to stay at homeostasis for a period of 2 years before change actually absorbs into the mainframe computer called—the mind.

Homeostasis is basically where the body or mind feels secure and settled. So, if I lost 12 pounds in 2-3 weeks, then the first message my brain gets is—get this body back to where it has been for 2-3 years! If I kept that same weight off for 2 years, my body and mind would be acclimated to this new weight. Two years is a long time to stick with any diet, I know. If you have been trying to lose weight or make a consistent change in your world, you know what I’m talking about.

Of course, I don’t want my body to bounce back to homeostasis, so I have to rebel against my own mind and body when I hear messages of hunger and ideations about my old ways of eating. Being the adult mind over the childlike body remains difficult, because every cell in our body wants to eat more. Understand the workings of the mind, and you’ll be one step farther on the pathway toward change.

Check out my web store below for 2 different downloads for $2.99 a piece for weight loss.

Our Immediate Challenge

Our Immediate Challenge

Some of our greatest gifts come wrapped as challenges. The bow is fancy, the wrapping paper white tissue, and the contents gives you great pause.

What? Why did my roof blow off? Why did my relationship break up? Why has my engine died? Why did I get laid off from my job?

But challenges are like Russian Nesting Dolls. Treasures are hidden within the challenge if you keep unfolding the layers.

The True Wolf of Wall Street #thewolfofwallst #leodicaprio #hilljonah

The True Wolf of Wall Street #thewolfofwallst #leodicaprio #hilljonah

After seeing the movie, The Wolf of Wall Street, my mind returned to a time when I worked on Wall Street in the 80s. I worked for a large, worldwide bank in the stocks division. We ran a hedge fund that was based on “baskets” of stock from different countries, as part of a diversifying effort for investors. Most of the time that I worked there, the company was trying to find its footing or losing money, so the atmosphere was always tense. Twice, while there, guys had heart attacks right in the office. I vowed, then, that I wouldn’t go into that frenzy with my mind or my money.

As I look back on the days, though, instead of taking suggestions from a know-it-all in the dressing room at the YMCA, I could have grabbed some Yahoo or Google for the initial asking price, which was around $1.50 for each, if I remember correctly. Well, I’m not sure how sucked into the tumult I would have become had I saw $500 turn into $50,000 in a couple years, but I try not to look back with defeat.

I have invested in many things, sometimes, even stocks, but the biggest investment in life has been with friendships and relationships. I wonder if giving your time and energy to friends and intimate partners is just as risky or even riskier than the stock market. If there were a large, African American congregations around me, I’d be saying, “Do I hear an Amen?” ‘Cause it’s damn true.

Caroline Myss wrote a couple books comparing our own energy systems in the body to investing money in the market. Basically, she says that each of us has 100% energy to invest every day. We try to balance where we invest this energy. 50% goes to the job. 20% goes to relationship. 30% goes to our children. Oops, that’s all I have left. There isn’t any more energy to invest in myself! Sorry, Charlie.

You, also, have people who invest more than they have—sort of like on personal credit. You give 65% to the job, 20% to your husband, 15% to studying, and another 25% to the children. Wow, that’s investing 125%. So, where does the other 25% of energy come from?

Good question! Caroline says it comes from the weakest energy system or chakra in your body. So, for the guys on Wall Street who had the heart attacks, it came from the heart chakra; therefore, depleting them of the energy they needed for their hearts to tick!

If you are having trouble in a bad relationship, your energy may get zapped from the second chakra, which is the digestive system, lower back, below the navel, and sexuality. Sometimes, you can see when people are giving too much to this chakra, because they gain weight, hoping they can feed the lack of energy with food. However, that doesn’t work when you see a loss of vital energy. So, you can begin to define the paradigm here for yourself. When you invest more than you have, you cause a depletion of vital and spiritual energy in your own body, which then can result—and often does—in sickness and disease.

So, go back to the drawing table and figure out how much energy you can dole out to the different areas of your life. Then, make all of it add up to 100%. If it goes over the 100% mark, then you are liable to be cheating your body of vital energy and end up sick and debilitated.

So, the true Wolf of Wall Street is that dark part of our own minds that wants more, needs more, and will borrow from even our bodies because of greed and desire. Don’t be that person, today! Change your mind, Change your body!

Defying #Gravity — I Slipped a What?

Defying #gravity — I Slipped a What?

After the movie Gravity, I’m sure many people have been imagining what the earth would be like if there were no gravity. I know for myself, after slipping a disk from carrying a 75 lb. root ball across the yard to replant a tree, I wish I could go back in time and make my yard effortlessly weight-withdrawn. Unfortunately, it’s heating and ice packs and muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories for the next two weeks.

The very popular musical #Wicked also has a song in it called “Defying Gravity.” Elphaba, the leading character learns to fly, taking away the debilitating power of the earth’s gravity—metaphorically, the ironic mean-spirited earthlings harboring hate and ridicule. Elphaba moves forward into the sky on her broom, embracing her own power to defy what, for us, is natural—gravity. “I’m through accepting limits. “Cause someone says they’re so!” she cries, as she rises from the ground and off of the stage. She, in turn, saves many people and her friends in the process. Wicked is definitely one of the best-written musicals I’ve ever seen. I went back three times in different cities. Each time it was better, and I was able to uncover more of the metaphors of each character.

When we defy the elements of the earth, we actually do take on our own, God-given power. But the only way to do this is to separate ourselves from the power of the earth—the gravity. I have found that this process is only meditation. We become the observer of our life and the workings of our imbedding neural pathways of the brain. Elemental and lasting change begins by rising above our problems and entering into a place where gravity (the powers of the earth) no longer exists. We stand on the bridge of change, overlooking the temptation, ridicule, and pain of the earth body, simply by becoming an observer.

If you want to find out more about meditation and learn the process, I will be happy to lead you through. Or I invite you to go to my Webstore below and click on one of the meditation mp3’s for $2.99.

How Many Years a Slave? #12yearsaslave #lupitanyongo

How Many Years a Slave? #12Yearsaslave

I have been a slave. I have worked under the powerful taskmaster of the past for 53 years now. The chains drag behind me like a constant reminder that though my life has changed, my simple mind hasn’t. I grab hold tightly and pull the past with me every every step I take. When will I let go?

Last night, during the Oscars, a wonderful film won “Best Picture”: 12 Years a Slave. Newcomer Lupita Nyongo took the award for best female in a supporting role. The years of slavery for African Americans are over, yet are we willing to let go of the last vestiges of the past. If we simply watch the aftereffect of accolades going on in African American direction, we couldn’t deny it. Yes, prejudice is everywhere, but we are moving forward to liberation, everyday.

Yes, women still have a struggle for equality, but we are revealing wrong and making small steps forward, every day. Yes, the GLBT community does not have equal rights yet, but, judging by the past changes for African Americans and women, the influence of moviemakers and the billions watching movies, give me the feeling that we have a chance at worldwide change. Why? Mostly because of how movies shape the American point of view.

I love how 30 years ago, a gay man starring in a Broadway, television or movie production was taboo. But today, a gay character supports almost every film and television show. Why? Because this is America! And we will not stand against policymakers and religious right wing to shape our country. So, people with lots of money and influence—who are not politians—step up to the plate and make a difference.

You don’t have to look hard to see how changed life is here in America when you watch 12 Years a Slave. Yes, we have a way to go. But, no, we are not the same country with all the same ideals. Most of us believe differently. You don’t have to look too much further than our African American first lady and president.
Where the problem exists is in two places: 1) How religion influences politics; and 2: How much are we willing to let go of the past to look for a better, fairer future?

This movement forward begins in your own brain, my friends. If you don’t let go of past hurts, past pain, and the influence of your parents, you will never shape your own world in peace. If you carry the chains of slavery into the future, you will always be shrouded and influenced by bigotry, fear, and prejudice. If you want to make lasting and effective change, let go of the chains of the past holding you in your pain. I urge you! We will all feel the effects of the masses finding a new Authentic America!

Angry at Religion? Angry at God? #religiousright #religion

Angry at Religion or Angry at God? #religiousright #religion

I have a few good friends whom I’m afraid to say the word God in front of because they have been so broken by the paradox of religion and self-righteous, political behavior, that they really can’t seem to delineate a spiritual experience from church ideation! For those and, if you know someone in this circumstance, this blog may be for you!

Auspicious Breath
When you arrive in this world, the umbilical cord gets cut, and the human baby takes the first breath of life. This breath begins to animate and move the child without the need of its mother’s life source. It becomes individuated and autonomously human.

Conversely, when one gets to the end of life, the last event is when the breath empties from the body as a final exhale. The dead body lies limp and emptied of animation. If any of you have ever witnessed someone’s last breath, the paradox of life and the breath becomes so clear during those precious moments.

So, what about the breath is so auspicious and magical that it can give life and take it away in seconds? In my estimation, the paradox of spirituality is represented here in the process of the breath and in the science of the human body.

I look at the body as a brand new computer with software, but no programming or information attached. As soon as the breath of life enters the body is the time when the programming begins. The first smiles, the first hugs, the first kisses—or the first cries with no answer, the first hunger with no food is what begins to create neural pathways in the brain that will function as internal memory and triggers throughout the entire pathway of human life.

So, the process of making sense of how you react and your responses to typical behavior can likely be vested in your initial attachment to human life—through no fault of your own has been etched into your mainframe. When I look at life like this, I can’t help but to see that I have an observer self, something that controls my breath, my behavior, and my thoughts that can override what has been processed as data in my brain and humanness. In this observer side, I begin to recognize that I have a higher state of mind that is not just my physical response unit or computer generated impulses.

When I spend time manifesting and staying in this observer mind, such as in yoga, meditation, or quiet walks, I get to know this higher Me. I notice immediately, like an observer standing atop a bridge, watching the fish swim upstream, that I am no longer my thoughts, like the fish swimming beneath, but more the observer of the entire flow of life. This very likely could be like the fish swimming upstream and against the natural course of energy.

I have always felt like a foreigner in this body, someone who can’t seem to make sense of humans and their behavior. This is what brought me to my belief about spirituality. If you want to try and discover the difference between spirituality and church, you may just want to look between your own ears. Ask yourself a few pertinent questions starting with: Who is questioning my own behavior or thoughts?

For many years I wouldn’t put up a Christmas tree or color eggs at Easter, because my dad was a perfectionist who made the holidays intolerable. Four years ago, I decided to put up a tree and create my own ritual around Christmas, much like the many years ago I decided to release my old paradigm of a judgmental God and religion for the pure state of spiritual awareness. In so doing, I was able to realize that even spirituality and church can be recreated according to our own beliefs, not the past. If you try this, you may discover a part you that has yearned to break free and fly into the sky, like a butterfly breaking through the hard crust of a cocoon waiting for its wings to dry.
