How Many Years a Slave? #12yearsaslave #lupitanyongo

How Many Years a Slave? #12Yearsaslave

I have been a slave. I have worked under the powerful taskmaster of the past for 53 years now. The chains drag behind me like a constant reminder that though my life has changed, my simple mind hasn’t. I grab hold tightly and pull the past with me every every step I take. When will I let go?

Last night, during the Oscars, a wonderful film won “Best Picture”: 12 Years a Slave. Newcomer Lupita Nyongo took the award for best female in a supporting role. The years of slavery for African Americans are over, yet are we willing to let go of the last vestiges of the past. If we simply watch the aftereffect of accolades going on in African American direction, we couldn’t deny it. Yes, prejudice is everywhere, but we are moving forward to liberation, everyday.

Yes, women still have a struggle for equality, but we are revealing wrong and making small steps forward, every day. Yes, the GLBT community does not have equal rights yet, but, judging by the past changes for African Americans and women, the influence of moviemakers and the billions watching movies, give me the feeling that we have a chance at worldwide change. Why? Mostly because of how movies shape the American point of view.

I love how 30 years ago, a gay man starring in a Broadway, television or movie production was taboo. But today, a gay character supports almost every film and television show. Why? Because this is America! And we will not stand against policymakers and religious right wing to shape our country. So, people with lots of money and influence—who are not politians—step up to the plate and make a difference.

You don’t have to look hard to see how changed life is here in America when you watch 12 Years a Slave. Yes, we have a way to go. But, no, we are not the same country with all the same ideals. Most of us believe differently. You don’t have to look too much further than our African American first lady and president.
Where the problem exists is in two places: 1) How religion influences politics; and 2: How much are we willing to let go of the past to look for a better, fairer future?

This movement forward begins in your own brain, my friends. If you don’t let go of past hurts, past pain, and the influence of your parents, you will never shape your own world in peace. If you carry the chains of slavery into the future, you will always be shrouded and influenced by bigotry, fear, and prejudice. If you want to make lasting and effective change, let go of the chains of the past holding you in your pain. I urge you! We will all feel the effects of the masses finding a new Authentic America!

Freedom or Bondage? #12yearsaslave

Freedom or Bondage? #12yearsaslave

Currently the movie 12 Years a Slave starring Chiwetel Ejifor as Solomon Northrop, a free black man in 1840s America. Solomon makes his living as a fiddle player, while his wife is his teacher. He is shanghaied by a pair of nefarious white men and soon finds himself on a ship headed to New Orleans. There, he is informed he will be called Platt and is sold into slavery by an unscrupulous business played by Paul Giamatti. As the story goes, Platt does his best to be authentic and a good worker while he waits for the chance to regain his rightful name.

Every minute of every day every human has the opportunity to make the choice of being in bondage to our Ego or to find freedom in a greater and more powerful place—the conscious observer mind.* All healthy and effective change starts with this perspective. The body and the mind can trap an individual and keep him/her enslaved to habits, hungers, and angry and frustrating thoughts. To be free of the shackles of any of the above, you must take time to meditate to get to the place in your mind where you can let go of the ego or deductive side of the mind and take hold of the most powerful part of your life, the conscious observer mind.

This objective mind can renew you, create a new thought process for the future, and make considerable change to a mind and body that you may have given up on. For certain, many—including me—have been taken out of the garbage dump and been revived with peace and mental acuity. Where once I thought I would never be able to let go of anger or an insecure anxiety, I have found a way to reprogram my mind using useful tool from Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and EMDR. I have found peace. You can too.

Everyone has a story. Make your story be one of freedom, not one of bondage. Check out all the ways Hypnosis can help you in the near future and with most problems in your life. Go to my website below. I’d be very happy to hear from you. Have a happy and healthy New Year.

(Please know that in no way am I minimizing the enslavement of the African Americans by making this spiritual comparison!)
