The Battleground of Your Mind #spiritualadvice #DivineMind #ScienceofMind #SOM #SpiritualLiving

Never has there been a great battle than in the mind of man. Most people wrestle with thought almost the entire day. The reason is that the mental chatter in our minds does not reflect what we believe about ourselves or about the world. The mental chatter in your mind is an expression, instead, of social consciousness combined with the experiences of the past. Nowhere, in this scenario, is there a place of peace.

So, we must take each thought into captivity and spend the day knowing our best, seeing beauty, and ferreting through the mental chatter to dispel it.

You might be saying, “That sounds like a job that is too difficult for me!” And, you know, you may be correct. This job takes diligence and a real desire for change in your life. When you know you desire to see and experience a difference resolve, then you must change the place where all of life begins: IN THE MIND!

Let’s look at an example of changing a negative thought:

You having been considering a change in work, because you no longer feel happy in your job. You have sifted through the many possibilities of what you would like to do and landed on a career that you believe would satisfy your needs! This job will require you to go back to night school and keep the job you don’t like for one year. You wrestle with yourself. Your mind says, “You are too old to make change. You are not smart enough to go back to school. Or simply don’t have the energy to do both!”

What do you do to counteract the negative chatter?

  1. First, begin to look around you and say this: “This is what I know! God is all in all. God is the sky. God is the smallest particle in physics. God is the ever-expanding universe. AND, since I am made in the essence of God, I am a small portion of this Divine Good. I know, that even the smallest portion of Good is completely, unequivocally Good. It must be so! Good cannot produce negativity. Only negativity can produce negativity.”
  2. You will notice that as you begin to speak to your own mind this truth, that the chatter stops. Why is this so? This is true because when your conscious mind begins to work and express, then the listening and the believing part of the mind stops. If you truly believe what you confess to be true, as you say it, then both thinking and listening processes cannot operate at the same time.
  3. So, all that is left to do is to actively connect your mind and life to a power greater than yours—The Divine Law of Life! When you plug into this Divine Electricity, you automatically become empowered, like a light bulb turns on when a lamp is plugged in. If you plug into source, encouraging thoughts and positive dreams have a chance at surviving in a world that consistently proclaims: It’s either you OR me.

New Thought believes that this world needs the power of you AND me. In this positive world, all is possible.

Married to the Law #effectivechange #trashingoldbeliefs #narcissism #conarcissim

Have you ever known a person who simply will not divert from a proposed set of laws he or she has made in his/her mind—probably put their by religion, society, or, mostly likely, their own sense of self-hate? Usually, these same people are apt to judge everyone else around them for not following the laws they have superimposed upon themselves. How do you get out of this negative, judgmental and prejudiced paradigm, should you discover that another has set you on this path?
Sharon had a mother who was a narcissist. Her mother never allowed Sharon an opinion in life. Once, when Sharon was a child, her mother let her pick out her own Christmas dress. Sharon picked out the prettiest, pink, flowery dress she could find, of course. This dress didn’t look a bit Christmas-like. As a result, when Sharon went to church in this beautiful dress, all proud and feeling beautiful, her mother said to almost everyone she met that morning, “I let my daughter pick out her own awful dress. This is what happens when you let an eight year old make her own decisions!”
Sharon admits, that from that point on, to gain her mother’s approval, she followed every rule that her mother doled out, including with it her mother’s views about politics, prejudices, and social protocol. This is called becoming a Co-narcissist. To have a narcissist, you must also have someone who allows the behavior to exist. Without realizing it, Sharon propagated, as an adult who barely even liked her mother, some of those same beliefs. Sharon asked me, “How do I get rid of these old believes from this hateful woman, who had long since passed away?”
Just recognizing that her beliefs were wrong for her was the first good choice Sharon had made. She, then, had to become the observer of her own mind and thoughts and, literally, cast down ideas that no longer served her. An example: Sharon’s first impulse when she sees a woman at the mall wearing white shoes and a brown belt is to think, oh my Lord, has that woman got any sense at all. Doesn’t she know her belt is supposed to match her shoes? And it’s summer. In the South, we don’t wear white after Labor Day!”
Sharon must first feel her mother’s superimposed thought and see that it is not her own. It was simply programmed into her mind. Sharon says to herself, “I don’t know if this woman is too poor or has ever been taught southern manners. It is not up to me to judge her with my beliefs. I don’t know this woman or her circumstances in life. Maybe she doesn’t have the money to buy something different.” So, feeling her truth and using her deductive mind to reason with the negative belief, is the first way to change an old pattern.
Second, she could use an EFT technique (Emotional Freedom Technique) that helps incorporate new belief into the body’s mainframe computer. The technique involves tapping a specific part of your body while you state your new outlook on life—out loud. Since this is a heart matter, I would suggest, as you repeat your new truth, tap your chest with your fingertips. This is also a Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP) technique that changes neural pathways in your mind as they are triggered.
The last thing to do is to thank yourself for your new outlook. We often forget that underneath our grown-up appearance, a small child exists inside of all of us, who needs our parental advice now and again. This child also desperately could use the encouragement that you never received from your own parent. So, it’s a good thing to reward your self for great, new behavior. To this day, when I set out to do any goal, I always add to my goal a reward, so that I know accomplishment has a golden pot at the end of its path. What a wonderful way to say thank you to yourself and to Spirit for a change you know will take time and much diligence.

Stretching to the Edge of Your Personal Growth #change #effectivechange

Stretching to the Edge of Your Personal Growth #change #effectivechange

At 87, Michelangelo was asked if he had any more personal goals or desires. He answered in Latin: “I am still learning.” Michelangelo was someone who desired to live the next moment, the next day, the next year. When any of us stop learning, we spiritually, emotionally, and then physically die. When a plant stops growing for some reason in nature, if not for just a season to rest, then the plant or tree is usually about to die. This metaphor hold true for our human existence.

Change looks like a good yoga workout. When you begin, you center with breathing exercises, and find a connection from your mind to your body. In other words, you become the observer and parent of the body, so that you don’t make actions that will hurt your fragile physical self.

Then we begin to make relaxing movement. This action is slow and meticulous. We begin with the spine, which connects the entire body. We end by rolling the head, which uses the neck and has hundreds of muscle attachments on each side of the occipital bones behind the head and at the top of the neck. This head movement is one of the best indicators of how stressed and tight the body has become. Often, I’ll get to a part of the movement that feels stuck or hurt. I stop at the point, breathe into the pain, and let oxygen flow to the muscles, before I begin to move into the pain.

From there, we move into the Asana, which is connecting or holding positions to strengthen and feel the entire body. The Asana or movement portion of the practice is not the most important part of yoga, the meditation is. The Asana is, by nature, the part of the practice where we identify our God Body, which is the conduit or the house for our spirit. As we have entered into a place of divine connection from mind to body, we learn to use our minds to control the fragile and ephemeral body. If we are aware and awake, we learn the most tenuous part of the practice, which is coming to the edge of pain, and waiting for the body to relax into a pose, to move deeper and more intricately into the ephemeral body.

All of this is a divine metaphor for change. In life, we always stand at the precipice of pain, trying to decide whether or not we want to face it—head on, dive in, or our best choice, to wait for spirit and your highest self to accept the problem, then gentle begin to make change. If we don’t face the issue and back away, then we never have the opportunity to learn our divine lessons. If we dive into the pain, our existence gets hurt and submerges into the deep, almost drowning from too much mental and physical stress. But, if we stand at the precipice of pain, waiting, we move slowly into the pain to get past it.

We are on the earth to create beauty. This is impossible if your mind is stuck in the past or feeling pain. Face it first. Stand at the edge of it and wait for God and your highest self to make a plan. Grieve if you must! But gently wade into the waters of change and begin to slowly move through it until you liberate yourself and your world from the obstacles that hold you from your divine destiny.

Today at the Bank

Today at the Bank

Yesterday, I gained back .6% of my body weight, simply by eating a ½ piece of pizza and some gluten free pasta for dinner, and eating 2 yogurts instead of 1 in the evening. We want the interest we get on our hard earned wage (whatever that is, diet, relationship, financial) to be exponentially better than when we began our trek toward effective change. However, sometimes, you get a bit of a set back. Here’s why…

Psychoanalysts studying the brain during weight loss and change, talk about the need for the body to stay at homeostasis for a period of 2 years before change actually absorbs into the mainframe computer called—the mind.

Homeostasis is basically where the body or mind feels secure and settled. So, if I lost 12 pounds in 2-3 weeks, then the first message my brain gets is—get this body back to where it has been for 2-3 years! If I kept that same weight off for 2 years, my body and mind would be acclimated to this new weight. Two years is a long time to stick with any diet, I know. If you have been trying to lose weight or make a consistent change in your world, you know what I’m talking about.

Of course, I don’t want my body to bounce back to homeostasis, so I have to rebel against my own mind and body when I hear messages of hunger and ideations about my old ways of eating. Being the adult mind over the childlike body remains difficult, because every cell in our body wants to eat more. Understand the workings of the mind, and you’ll be one step farther on the pathway toward change.

Check out my web store below for 2 different downloads for $2.99 a piece for weight loss.

Radical Change #radicalchange

Radical Change  #radicalchange

The dictionary defines change as: to make something different. But if you search deeper and read more passages in the definition, some places define change more radically: to give a completely different form or appearance to: transform. Often, when we begin on a journey for change as in the New Year, we start out with modest or large goals. “I want to lose 50 pounds by Easter!” “After thirty years of smoking two packs of cigarettes a day, I’m going to quit cold turkey!” Or “this is the year I’m going to dedicate an hour a day to reading, self-realization, and meditation!”

Most often, after about two weeks, our big dreams of radical change turn to the kind of change you get in a vending machine. I’m going to lose 50 pounds by Easter turns into “well, maybe I’ll stop eating that candy bar between lunch and dinner.” Or your desire to commit to self-realization takes you to a K-Mart clearance to buy a large, oval mirror! Change is hard. I work with people every day who begin the process of modifying behavior with me. I can see for some, they are completely ready. With others, the idea in their minds hasn’t become tangible or ready to be expressed.

I have one particular client I can think of who said, “I want to quit smoking, lose weight, and quit drinking. But here’s the hitch: I want to do it on my own terms, in my own time, and without anyone telling me what to do!” I have to congratulate him on his moxie. Not many people realize that change goes against everything in our stasis state of mind. By definition, everything is changing every moment of every day. But in our Ego Mind, our goal is to get to comfort and stay there. Then, we wonder why we get so frustrated with ourselves when the pounds don’t come off or the time never appears to take care of ourselves.

To make radical change we need to be more like a caterpillar. He starts out on a journey very close to the earth. He then climbs high to a safe place. He wraps himself in a cocoon. Then, slowly, his entire body morphs into a beautiful flying object. Eventually, as he chews his way out of the cocoon, he wakes up again with wings. Every thing changes with the caterpillar. Nothing stays the same: the appearance, the means of travel, the rate at which it moves, and even its steadfast, slow-crawling body transforms to a gentle insect that floats on air. I believe God put this beautiful creature on our path to show us the metaphor of radical change.

If you desire to lose weight, you must first experience your attachment to food and walk steadily, observing your behavior. In time, you will see patterns emerge that were birthed from being rewarded with food, detesting your own body, or wanting to protect yourself from hurt by making your appearance undesirable. When you are clear what you want to change, then you must climb high into your subconscious mind and stay their for awhile watching for the power to change. Wait for that image of what change appears as for you. And lastly, find a perfect modality or course of change.

The next step is to sit with your desire a bit. Feel and see the change before you ever take the move forward. I don’t recommend launching into change. Most people who make quick, sudden changes, end up stopping the natural evolution of change midstream. The person with slow moving perseverance will usually change most effectively.

I promise, if you meditate on your change and see it clearly, you will not even have to “try” to change. Remember what I said before: change is an integral part of life. You will simply place your mind and body in the will of the wind. And just as the wind needs a tree or a flower or your house’s shudders to show its power; you, too, will break forth and emerge like the butterfly to find the wings of change and the wind on which to float.

Below is information that I will be sharing for about a month, as not every person on my list reads the blog every day. If you have already read it, just skip over it. Thanks for understanding.

A Year to CLEAR Challenge:
(Please Know: You Can Join Us At Any Point in the Year Challenge.)

The masses search outward for things that qualify them as a person, but I always go inward for that which quantifies me for greatness. At twenty-five I preached on street corners in NYC as an in-the-closet Pentecostal minister. One day I heard a still small voice say, ‘God cannot be contained in a book or a law or even in a religion. Dig deeper, reach further to find me, and you will find your authentic Self.’”

A Year to CLEAR Challenge!

The acronym CLEAR stands for (Compassionate, Loving, Enthusiastic, And Relationship-Ready). The goal of this project is to engulf readers in a weekly study that will transform them by removing blocks, promote self-growth, and give them wings to fly freely into daily life. Each week, by going to BoSebastian.com and choosing the Year to CLEAR Challenge tab, a new challenge or thought to provoke conversation, growth, and group functionality.

My vision is to make Finding Authentic You the book to have in your Kindle or on your computer. The book is a comprehensive look at growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically.

As a yoga teacher and student of the Ayurvedic tradition, I bring to the table understanding of physical challenges, the ability to overcome mental problems with Life & Health Coaching, as well as hypnotherapy, and expertise in meditation and spirituality as a minister.

The combination of all three in one book with an interactive connection to like-minded readers, for one year, is what makes this Year to CLEAR Challenge a must-do for every spiritual seeker.

The One-Year Approach to Change

No one believes he or she can change overnight. But success in change comes from the metaphors of nature. Seasonally, life changes all around us in nature. Finding Authentic You offers a gradual change perspective, looking at the triune aspects of change as in yoga: Body, Mind and Spirit.

Accessing the ability to change and finding yourself actually pursuing change must be a daily search, which I call getting to the “observer mind.”

In this frontal cortex of the brain we find the anatomy of change and the power to counter every negative trigger of the human process. The workings of Hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) are all positive actions to help the mind and body flow to a positive space for change.

Every aspect of FINDING AUTHENTIC YOU fulfills this constant need for diffusing the negative past and dreaming of a fulfilling future.

Step 1: Recognize That Change is Inevitable
Step 2: Release from Resistance to Change
Step 3: Understanding Change and Allow Spirit to Define It
Step 4: A History Lesson—About You
Step 5: Look at Your Past with Compassion
Step 6: Making a Strong Commitment to Change
Step 7: Dream Your Fabulous Future

Do You Have Capacity for Change?

Do You Have Capacity for Change?

(I’m sharing this story with the permission of a client. I have changed the names to protect the innocent.) I got a letter yesterday from a client’s workplace:

Dear Bo: When one needs a hypnotherapist, where does she turn? Does one realize that she is in need of that qualified professional to enter into her life—to shape her into that new person who is buried way down deep within? And I do mean way down!

I’m not sure it is possible for us all to find our “Authentic Self.” Or maybe for some, it may just never happen.

You being a compassionate person who truly understands people and how to help them become more than they were or could have been is a miracle. I have seen it recently.

Take Sharon Starling (name changed) for example. What a pain in the butt she was before she came to you. No sense of style. Not a real sense of humor. She really didn’t even smile a lot. She didn’t appeared to be happy at all. She also sometimes had a better-than-you attitude.

Bo, I have to confess something to you. A couple months ago I almost popped the big, grey fitness ball she sits on at her desk, because she was so irritable.

But no more! What a pleasure she has been to work with these days since she has been coming to you for Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy. She is so joyful and happy. She smiles all the time now. Oh, and did I tell you how beautiful she is looking as she has lost weight and wears clothes that are attractive and fit well. We all love all the improvements she has made.

To close, we simply have to say: JOB WELL DONE, BO~!!! Keep up the good work with her. We all here at Rustin and Black Advertising thank you.

It was signed by six coworkers.

Of course, my client had seen the letter before it was sent. Her coworkers were so pleased with her that they had asked how she had made a 360-degree turn around. When she told them about me, they asked for my address. She originally thought it was to contact me about weight loss.

These workers had sat side-by-side with my client for over ten years and never considered that she could be more than what she was. They didn’t see her as the person I knew she could be. Change is about the ability to see yourself as capable and for others to support the new you, without reminding you of your old faults and habits.

A good practitioner is able to keep you focused on the best of you and your instinctive power to move toward your authentic self. Most of my clients put up so many barriers and walls at first, it takes time to see what is actually inside. This particular person was in a marriage that was an unhealthy place. When she realized she needed to find herself outside that relationship, her entire life began to blossom. Her demeanor changed. Her looks even changed. Mostly her sense of compassion for herself and others changed.

However, she needed the courage and strength to endure all this. Sometimes effective change brings about hard times. People in your life rebel against the new you. They want stasis. They even sometimes demand it of you. But as you stand firm in your truth, you begin to realize that nothing is more important that your happiness. If you aren’t happy, no one around you can be happy either.

This was the case and point with my client and her coworkers. Her unhappiness rubbed off on everyone she met and worked with. I’m sure if you ask her ex, you would find that depression and a sour attitude every day wasn’t easy to live with either.

If you want a better life, you have to move toward it with power and strength. Sometimes it takes help. Most times it takes help. I had about ten years of therapy before I was able to see the life. I wish I would have found out about hypnotherapy and life coaching before I spent so much time and money recounting the past for ten years.

If you don’t move out of the past and into a new image of yourself, no one else can move either. Sometimes that means people leaving your life and you considering new healthier relationships. It always means, however, you looking inside and, perhaps, searching for a spiritual center, as well. Life coaching, hypnosis, and therapy are all integral parts in the path toward mental health. Sometimes, you even need to take medication to change the health of your physical brain.

For me, I had to take an antidepressant for many years to even be able to face the hard parts of my past. Nothing is impossible, though, when you have courage and true sense of desire to change and be happy.

Preparing for the Cross—Part Four: Dream Your Future

Preparing for the Cross—Part Four: Dream Your Future

Every day holds a new vision of what could be for you. Try not to limit God by thinking in specifics. Think about general things that you want to express in your life: great relationships, powerful and supportive friends, lots of money in the bank, a safe home, and an amazing job that you want to work at every day.
If you have been following my story on Facebook, you might know that I was watching television two nights ago when, with no provocation, an amazing wind with the sound of a freight train, lifted the roof of my carport and storage shed right off and cut my electricity at the same time. As you can imagine, I was frightened to the core, as was my mother who was sitting on the adjacent couch.
As I waited in the candlelit living room for Nashville Electric to show up, I thought of all the things that could have happened as a result of this accident. My car went unscathed—not one scratch, though it was directly under the carport. No planks from the roof went through the windows of my house, especially the one where I was sitting right in front of. Very few things were broken, because the wind came under the roof and lifted it straight off. Many angels must have been around me and around my house.
I have been spending the last two days getting estimates and going through Insurance legalities to see what the universe is ready to reward me with. I decided to not look at this experience as a bad thing. I ended up getting a new roof out of it. I get my carport rebuilt and my storage area renewed. Good things can come from bad situations. And angels can protect you even in the midst of the storm. Believe for your best.
Every year I make a vision board of what I want my life to look like, who I want to touch, and where I would like to travel. You can look up the words “Vision Board” in my index of Blog Titles to discover how to make one. I have been adding new things to it as I feel my life is transforming into a vast, undiscovered world. The rest of this trip to my future will fill in the blanks for itself as I follow my heart and the leading of God.
Your board should expound upon each area of your life with simple, yet bold, thoughts and pictures about Finding Authentic You. Can you accept that the best you can be is ready for you right now? You must believe for that to happen.
Let my blog and its titles be like a spiritual lottery. Every day or anytime you feel like you need a spiritual boost, I want you to either open the website to a random page and read that section, knowing it pertains to you. Or I want you to look through the alphabetized list of titles and see if something pops out at you to read. If that happens, know that what you read will be what you are led to hear in that moment to grow either spiritually, mentally, of physically stronger.
Have fun. Know that I see you completely growing in peace and fully authentic already! Always know, as well, you can contact me on this blog, and I’m ready to pray for you specifically or we can schedule an appointment either personally or with Skype. Help and love and creative visualization are only a step away at all times.
