Charlie Price abandons his family’s shoe factory to move to London for a girl. After the unexpected death of his father, Charlie returns to the struggling factory and finds it’s up to him to figure out a way to keep the business alive. Enters Lola, a fabulous drag queen, who gives Charlie the idea to create ladies’ shoes for men. Soon, the old factory is turning out some new and amazing “kinky boots” under the supervision of Charlie and Lola. Charlie blossomed where he was planted. Lola was his earth-angel.
The idea for this discovery came to me via a friendly conversation with a spiritual friend. My friend and I were talking about how, on that particular date, I had made plans for the entirety of the day. Every hour was accounted for. By noon, everything on my list had been either cancelled or changed. I told her, “I guess I’m supposed to stay home, exercise, read, and meditate.”
That’s when she said: “You have to blossom where you are planted.”
Her words rang true. Often in life, we get choices only to have them changed or taken away completely. How we deal with these changes defines us and shows us how grown-up we are, spiritually.
When Spirit finds it so important to change your plans, you should never be frustrated! You should be excited… damn excited, because something magical is about to happen. Or, Spirit may be saving you from a tragic accident that would have occurred had you been out on the road at 10:30 a.m. Who really knows? But, be thankful!
When I lived in NYC with my ex, our sublet was nearing its completion, and we needed to find a permanent place to live. We looked and looked and just could not find an apartment. Our frustration led to the decision to move back to Nashville, where life was just simpler and a lot cheaper.
Soon after we left, 9-11 happened. Michael often worked in the World Trade Center as part of his job. Now, with intrigue and excitement, I think about how many angels it took for Spirit to convince us to move to keep Michael safe.
No, I don’t fret when my plans are changed anymore. I make kinky boots out of my old shoes and laugh with Spirit, then blossom where I’m planted!
