Hope in a New Land
I can’t imagine what it was like to have been in the ship
sailing toward an unknown territory, only to discover America—the hope, the
amazing reality that the world isn’t flat, and the understanding that the
English progeny can spread into unchartered territories.
Except, there were two different perspectives at that
moment. One was that England had found a new home. The indigenous Indians,
however, thought some strangers were invading theirs.
Let’s take the perspective of the English first. I liken this
trip to taking a journey to space. We don’t know what is out there. We only
know that countless planets and stars exist outside and inside of our universe.
Surely, there must be life outside of our small paradigm in comparison to the
vastness of the planetary sky. I am convinced, earth is just a dot on the
surface of a galactic myriad of beings that we have only “Star Trek” and “Star
Wars” to thank for trying to help us open our minds to this possibility.
Your journey to spirituality might need to include the
possibility of life outside the human body, if not simply to believe that God
doesn’t exist in a box, but to open your heart and mind to new hope and new
possibility. If you limit your perspective to just the earth, you certainly
limit Creator God. So, the Christian bible talks of creation on this planet.
Does that mean that there are not other languages and beings communicating in
other ways, other bibles, other life?
I have this recurring dream where I am at this resort
island. On the island is a beautiful hotel and a lot of mediocre hotels. In the
basement of the larger hotel, there is a casino. Every time I have this dream,
I try to get to the casino. But I have trouble finding it. I take cabs
sometimes. I walk. Friends drive me. Sometimes I even fly.
I’ve had the dream so many times that there is a cast of
characters I expect to be in the dream. Some of these people are old friends
and family, and others are people I have never met. Is it possible that this
dream is a reality that is happening simultaneously with my conscious one—like
the quantum physicists believe—or that my dream has happened already somewhere
in the universe. Perhaps, the dream exists only in my mind. Even so, if the
existence of something more vast and wonderful or even similar to our earth is
out there, wouldn’t it be good to just open our minds to the possibility? Is
this not part of allowing Spirit or God to direct us upward and onward toward
new lands and new prospects in our spiritual journey?
On the other side of the paradigm, the Indians thought the
English were invaders. This makes me also wonder if any beings outside of the
earth actually consider too our existence. I am intrigued by the possibility of
interplanetary visits and beings from outer space discovering our world. But
I’m equally frightened that these beings may feel as England did that they have
discovered a new territory that is their own.
Many movies and stories have been written about this. Many
people have documented evidence of UFOs and sightings of cosmetic phenomena
that can’t be explained away. Even if there is a possibility of humanity being
challenged by another world, I’m convinced that we will rise to the occasion.
Perhaps, like “Men in Black,” there are beings out there already here and
living among us. I know, I’ve been around some people I have thought were from
outer space.
In a nut shell, being a prude and washing away evidence of
other beings from other planets with our own crude self-centeredness is just a
way of covering up our own fear of the beyond. To me, the more I open my mind
to vast, unlimited possibility, the greater my own future becomes.
Hope exists in the unknown.
