Almost everyone remembers the old Katrina and the Waves song: “Walking on Sunshine,” because of a recent commercial that used it as a theme song. The chorus goes on to say: “I’m walking on sunshine. And don’t it feel good?”
As I have been living in Southern Florida, out of the thirty days I’ve lived here, it has rained twenty-five of them. I’m not saying that the rain ruined all of the days, I’m just sharing a statistic. Most days, the sky would get dark, the rain would come down like torrents, then the sun would immediately pop out again. We’ve had few days that the sun hasn’t reappeared to create another beautiful day. I’m not complaining at all. I’ve only had to water my plants on the back patio three times since I’ve been here.
Sunshine makes us feel good. Have you ever thought about why? Recent studies have shown that a sensible amount of sunshine (up to 15 minutes without sun block) can reduce our risk of cancer, gives us 90-95% of our essential calcium and also allows our body to absorb calcium from which we get strong bones, reduces heart disease, and prevents diabetes. But the most significant reason is it makes us feel good and prevents us from SADs, which is Seasonal Affective Disorder, a depression caused from lack of sunshine on the body.
I have always noticed that I fight depression and negative thoughts when the sun doesn’t shine for a few days at a time. I can’t imagine living in a place such as Seattle who gets 226 cloudy days a year. I figure that I would be sad or get SAD plenty of the time. I just need sunshine in a very physical way to feel good.
I say all this because, to me, and to most every spiritual thinker, we believe that God is light! Even when I imagine Spirit entering my body, I use the image of light coming in from the top of my head and clearing all darkness, which counter-intuitively usually represents negativity. Only in the Tao theory of spirituality do we understand the holiness and grandiose darkness. Out of the empty, dark space, all creation is made. So, believers in the Tao look at the darkness as holy as well, which gives us great balance in our spiritual belief.
All things are holy now, even the places we imagine or have identified as negative. Everything was created by God and through our Divine Conscious Minds expressing as God. But not everything feels good, like the sunshine. During the day is when we are alive and express in the physical. In the darkness is when most of us sleep. So, we also consider sunshine to be part of our awakened state or deductive mind and the dreaming mind (the subjunctive mind) as part of the darkness.
Let’s imagine today the combination of the Tao theory (the holy darkness) with the theory of sunshine and our awakened, deductive mind to be the power that each of us needs to create effectively in our lives.
We need the darkness of dreams to create imagination: the lightness of our deductive mind to produce action; and together we can create effectively all good in the world. The only Thing and the Thing Itself that is missing in this theory is the Law and the Power of God to move through our creative source (our humanness) to cause a tremendous effect in our reality and bring our dreams to life.
And so it is!
