Should You Ever Compromise Your Truth for the Greater Good? #compromising truth #spirituality #spiritualadvice #spiritualreality

I have a very dear, old friend whom I love a great deal. He has been reading one of my books. I would consider this friend enlightened, loving, compassionate and giving. He considers himself an Atheist. As he has been reading my book, he has been sharing with me about the parts that he feels puts him off about my writing. He, basically, believes all of the spiritual concepts I teach, but when I use words like—God, Jesus, pray to God, Trust in God, Believing in Creator—he shuts down and wants to close the book. The only reason why he has not shut the book and thrown it away (his words) is because he knows me and wants to help me understand how to communicate to an Atheist with more compassionately. He understands that I would never judge him or what he believes.
A few days ago, he finished the book and said, “I wish this book could be mandated for everyone in the world to read!” I was taken aback by those words, since I thought he was only reading it to appease me.
His comment led me to want to know more about what he enjoyed and what words would have stopped him from reading had he not known me. I wanted to reach further out of my own spiritual paradigm to the people who haven’t heard these concepts. Much to my surprise, anything that even resembled the word God or Jesus kind of slapped him in the face as dogma and fairly judgmental.
I talked to a few friends about this. They all suggested that I not compromise what I believe and how I teach it because of one person’s thoughts. However, I still took this lesson to my meditation and have been praying about this with my prayer partner.
My question today is about our Truth and how much we can bend without losing the concepts and framework of our faith that we hold dearly.
When I break this down for myself, I realize that everyone, no matter his or her belief, is made in the same image and shares the same race consciousness as I, whether I choose to believe it or not. Everything came from Source, and we are all headed back to source, which is the bases of Unity. This earth experience is just one of many journeys our souls will move through to gain understanding.
I quote the old saying, “When in Rome, do as the Romans.” I can understand that within this statement is a general rule of compassion and respect. I do not have to compromise what I am to conform to the lifestyles of the Romans. In fact, my belief of compassion would allow me to hold fast to love as the highest ideal, even if it meant changing my words or my clothing to respect those who invited me to their Roman home.
I also realized that I use this same concept almost every day in my Life Coaching business. I often bend my words and ideas to be compassionate to the person who is hurting and needs help from me. I’m the one with enough strength and love to look at the bigger picture and bend. I know that by using words that would help my client understand concepts, instead of forcing him or her to accept my words as truth is actually the highest call to love. So, I keep my intention, but change my words. Does it really matter if I’m helping someone?
Truth cannot be changed by words. It can, however, be rearranged and modified to help others move forward to a more enlightened path.

Afformations? Something New! #afformations #spiritualadvice #DivineMind #ScienceofMind #SpiritualLiving

If you follow the belief of New Thought, you most definitely have heard of Affirmations. Affirmations are positive quotes that you repeat to confirm your belief and bolster your creative process in times of stress or disbelief. Of course, affirmations with a true, positive emotion behind them can counteract all negative thinking. But what about afformations? What are they? What is there purpose?

Afformations are not statements, but questions that you ask yourself about positive states of being that you have either already experienced or state of being you would like to believe about yourself. Some examples of questions would be:
  • Why have I never gone a day in my life hungry?
  • Why am I made of the same energy as the Universe?
  • Why am I always in the right place at the right time?
  • Why was I born deserving abundance?
What a question does to your brain is something completely different than a statement. Questions activate the upper left brain’s critical analysis function. That part of your brain then looks for the reasons you do have (like a mental database). Using positive questions, instead of statements, directs your mind to ONLY look for what you already have and want more of.

“When you ask your critical mind to assume you have something and you’re just curious about the reasons why, you automatically search an optimistic database in your memory or start a database. If you focus on what you don’t have and how to get more of what you don’t want, your mind searches through a lack database,” says Susan Fox, in explaining the theories of Noah St. John, the founder of this new system of belief.

So, you can take an issue in your life, such as forgiveness, and make an afformation about it:
“Why do I forgive myself and my ex for the hurt we have caused each other in the recent past?” or “Why do I choose to remember the good things in my relationship, instead of the bad?”
Your mind now begins to search a positive database for the answers to these questions, instead of mulling over the old reasons why you dislike the old situation. This is a new template to think about, so give it some time to settle in and for your mind to gently answer the question as your meditate. When your mind gently begins to answer the questions you pose, you must begin to do what it asks of you.

If you ask the question: “Why am I such a positive person about life situations?” And your subconscious responds in kind: “You are a positive person because you begin each day anew and believe that the best is always there for you.” As you believe that your best is always there, your best automatically comes to you. So, you go about your day with the feeling and emotion of the best greeting you with open arms.

Afformations are just an alternate way of confirming your good by creating questions—instead of statements—based on your informed mind about the Truth of the Law.

Is Any Fact Completely True? #change

Every day I go about doing my chores, dreaming, making new friends, nurturing old friendships, and taking care of my family. Along the way I find truths that, sometimes, almost hit me in the head like the old commercials about V-8 juice. Why didn’t I know that? I think. How could this new truth possibly have eluded me all this time? Also, as I travel down the path to revelation, I find deeper truths that seem to negate the nuggets of definitive fact that kept me safe along life’s journey. I begin to wonder if all information I have gathered thus far is just a version of the truth, but not THE truth. If I keep this truth in mind, perhaps, I won’t be beating myself up about not understanding life on a day-to-day basis. Or is this last truth about to change as well?

Let’s look at an example. “God is Love!” This seems to be a reasonable, spiritual fact we can take to the bank. But, suddenly 9-11 happens, and you begin to wonder what LOVE is, if what undergirds all of creation could allow such a travesty. So, you begin to redefine love. “Love is the greatest expression, helping everyone on earth, even when it seems as if what happens in your life is a bad thing. Good will probably come from this. Perhaps, even the greatest lessons of my life could proceed from this one defining moment.”

So, love and its definition keeps changing with your relationship to life and Spirit. The more you get out of yourself and become a compassionate observer, the more perspective you get. Of course, that brings us to the definition compassion. One day you believe that compassion looks loving and caring and selfless, then the next day, you realize in dealing with an family member who is an addict that compassion can be harsh and strong. The truth: everything changes but change, even our definitions of life—especially our definitions of life.

Being open to that change is what makes the difference between someone who is staunch about an opinion (we all know what that looks like) and some 0ne who is open and willing to change with the time and situations of life. I promise you that your life will always be more joyful and at peace if you reach out of any small perspective or definition and clear the slate completely. Let this moment, the very present moment, redefine your world day to day.
