“Don’t Condemn Yourself” Week

One of the greatest hindrances to growing spiritually and psychologically is condemnation. Condemning yourself is deeply rooted in fear—fear of not being good enough, pretty enough, handsome enough, skinny enough, or smart enough. You name the fear; it will probably fit under the subhead of Fear. One of my favorite authors, if not my favorite one, is Eckhart Tolle. This week, his E-blast was about condemning yourself. I thought I would continue the conversation with my recent take on the subject.

My mother fell yesterday and hurt herself. As she has gotten older, she tends to get lost under her numb feet about once every six months. Usually, her falls are minor. But, yesterday, my sister’s explanation of what happened sound much like this: Mom tried to get down on the floor to exercise and ended up falling on to her head and shoulder. One of her arthritic fingers tried to stop the fall and it ended up getting badly sprained. Mom screamed and moaned to the point that my sister suggested she call an ambulance. When anyone mentions taking Mom to the hospital, she usually calms down. She quieted enough for Cheri to assess her injuries. After checking her completely, Cheri was sure my mother hadn’t broken anything. The fall simply scared Mom, and the injury to her hand was painful.
Later, when I came home, my sister went out to the store. I practiced the piano as my mother went into the kitchen to get herself a bowl of soup. Soon, I heard dishes crashing down onto the floor and countertop. I jumped up from the piano and went to my mother’s aid. At that point, she was hitting herself in the head with her hand, muttering, “I’m so stupid. I’m so stupid!”

Without thinking, I raised my voice: “Don’t say that about yourself! You are not stupid. You simply are a little frazzled from all that happened to you today.” With that, I led her back to the couch and fixed her dinner, as I, probably, should have done, initially. She was hesitant for me to clean up the broken glass. She wanted to do it herself and to make her own dinner. However, she knew I was serious, because I rarely raise my voice.

As we more calmly discussed what had happened, my mother shared that she was afraid of losing control of her life and her body. To that end, that fear turned into self-condemnation. Even the most uneducated person would never condemn an elderly person for getting old and losing functionality; yet, when she reached into her soul to find self-help, an old condemning message came to the surface. This message had probably been there since her stepfather verbally abused her as a child.

I shared with her that she was a wonderful mother and was doing great for being 83. To even be motivated enough to get down on the floor to exercise was more than most people her age would do. And her diabetes had caused neuropathy in her hands, which made her not feel her fingers and hands, especially the weight of something. So, she drops heavier articles, because she can’t estimate the weight of them as to the amount of feeling she has in her fingers.

I’m listening to her moan, now, as I write this. Again, she mutters, “I’m so messed up!” I shake my head in dismay. How can she get better, if all she does is condemn herself for the present situation? The truth is: She will have a difficult time of getting well, until she changes her mind about her self-assessment. Love and caring heals! Condemnation pushes you further into the abyss of darkness, away from the healing light.

We can only see fault in other people, when the fault, indeed, exists within ourselves. So, I know that I must have some of this same self-condemning talk rising, as well.

I am knowing for her and I that we are created in the image and likeness of Creator God and Unlimited Good and Wholeness. We are one with that Wholeness, operating from the center of It, as It, in It. So, we are complete and whole now, having all the tools and energy we need to move forward, even from sickness, pain, and negative situations. Everything that presents itself in our lives is subject to this Unlimited Good and Power to change anything negative to positive.

I, also, know this truth for you, too, today!

Angels Slumming It!

Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Could some of these giants or even you be angels dressed in human clothing? I often wonder.

After watching the movie Men in Black, my mind was set to caution as I looked at each individual in my life, for the next month, wondering if what I saw in the flesh was a mask or reality. Who knows, really?

Helen Keller said: “life is either an adventure or nothing at all.” She could say this with utmost authenticity, as her life was all about traveling in the dark, waiting for angels to lead her on her way to education and ultimately her speaker’s series, which inspired millions. I wonder how many angels are operating in my life or your life now, just to get us on our path and keep us there.

I’m a very tough human being with a strong push toward the future. But I can be easily manipulated by fear or abandonment. I know those are my buttons. So, I have to be sure that when I set out on a path that I look for times that these two triggers don’t cloud my vision. Often, though, angels help me when I get lost.

The idea of Angels walking among us on earth has been around since biblical times. In the Hebrew bible and in the Christian bible we see instances all through the scriptures where angels (the word angelos in the Greek means messengers) intervene and help humans along the path with divine messages and even miracles like parting a sea or changing a staff into a snake.

How often have you felt that some being from the ethers swept a car out of your way or kept you from tripping? I know almost every time I travel on the road in Florida, I feel as if ten angels must work very hard just to get me from point A to point B.

The title of this Discovery suggests that when Angels come to earth or when We come to earth that we are slumming it. The metaphor is to say that the earth is a place where angels either help or learn or do nothing, which is a total waste of God’s divine energy. When you open your heart to let spirit dwelling within you and heaven resides inside your heart, you become a conduit of God and God energy; albeit, a messenger. So, by definition, you, too, could be an angel here on earth.

I believe every moment of every day you have a choice of whether or not you want to be an angel or acquiesce to your Ego and simply live as a human slumming it, waiting for your next meal, your next pay check, and your next job. I don’t want to simply be human—ever. I want to know that I am a Spirit temporarily dwelling in a human body, doing Spiritual work on earth and dancing and enjoying all that this experience has to offer. All of this is God’s work. Whether it be to help one person or a large group or swim with the Dolphins, to think joyful and loving thoughts and do deeds that will contribute to changing the world’s behavior, let each of our days be filled with angelic reasoning.

Mary Ann Williamson says, “As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” As the kingdom is in each of us, we change the Whole Earth whenever we turn our thoughts to God!

Kingdom Life

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be a prince or a princess? Does a crown of jewels on your head make you think of royalty and riches? Or does the Queen of England in her somber state come to mind, looking rather bothered by the entire world of pomp and circumstance?

I’m more inclined to think of what I would feel like having all the riches and abundance available that I could possibly want, with servants accomplishing things I desire to get done, but couldn’t do by myself. With this in mind, I think of Jesus’ peculiar words: “The kingdom of God is inside of you!” What exactly does that mean?

The only way to imagine that the kingdom is within you is to believe that you are royalty. A person can marry into royalty, or he or she must be of the family lineage. So, you and I are made of God, from Spirit, in the image of Creator—we are, indeed, from the lineage of the King. Simple. You now are a prince or a princess. No one has to grant you any privileges but yourself.

The next thing we would need to know is what kind of laws permit us to have and to do in this kingdom? This metaphor applies to us by knowing the spiritual laws that were pronounced to us by the Master Teacher, Jesus. For example: “Ask, believing, and it shall be given unto you. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened unto you.” All of these statements are spiritual laws. Each of them applies to you as a child of the kingdom.
Let’s take the first law: Ask, believing, and it shall be given unto you. If you knew without a shadow a doubt—like commanding a servant to get you breakfast and knowing it would be served to you promptly—you could proclaim and believe in your heart and mind what could happen in your present and in the future, simply by speaking a command and believing it.

So, if you say, “I am stupid and don’t deserve shit,” then, my friend, shit is what you will receive from the law.
However, if you say, “I am a child of the king,” knowing your clout as royalty, and request: “I believe with all my heart that prosperity has come to my house now from ways that I don’t even understand. I’m thankful for this law. I trust this law as much as I trust that morning will come after night, every day, because of this same law.”

Then, and only then, will this law work in favor of you. Today, think about your royal blood. Imagine all day that you are a child of the most high. How different would you act? How much would you ask of the world? Would you be a compassionate prince or princess? Would you want the law to work for everyone, or just yourself?
When you finally feel the kingdom in your heart, I promise, you will manifest just about anything you want in this world. God is ready and waiting to give you the kingdom.
