I JUST CAN’T SLEEP! #insomnia #anxiety #findingpeace #SpiritualLiving

I am not surprised that more and more people are suffering from insomnia as the days of quiet and solitude in the world are simply over. We do not and will not experience quiet unless we find a safe place in our minds and in our homes to allow PEACE to exist in our lives. Peace is always present, but you must welcome it into your life; otherwise, it stays outside your door waiting for you to answer its call.

Of course, the presence I speak of is the God presence, which only comes to our anxious hearts when we make time for meditation and quiet. If you are finding sleep harder and harder to acquire, then you must also take the time to invite the presence of love and security to be in your life, before you ask your body to sleep. Otherwise, you will continue to experience the Race Consciousness that the world is feeling from so much terrorism and destruction.

In my own personal practice, specifically with sleep, I make sure I spend, at least, 15 minutes of silence before I go to bed. This means turn off your televisions. Don’t have a television in your bedroom putting you to sleep. This is simply the worst way of giving your spirit rest. This is like unlocking your front door before you go to bed. You will have no idea what enters your subconscious while you sleep. You must always guard your mind from negative thinking.

In my 15 minutes of silence, I do a few yoga poses that are relaxing, nothing strenuous. I breathe with intention, using the same 6 counts to inhale and 6 counts to exhale. I may put on some lovely music with no words. I find that as long as the music does not contain words, music is okay, because it does provide a loving, harmonious and safe environment for sleep.
Then, I prepare my sleep space with an intention: “I will sleep beautifully in the arms of Spirit and love and awaken feeling refreshed and ready for my day.” I never cloud my mind with a large intention before I sleep.
Sleep is not meditation.
You should not try to meditate right before you sleep. You may end up going into a meditative state instead of sleeping. The meditative state is consciously awake, which leads one to feel as if he or she has been up the entire night. Perhaps, that person will feel rested bodily, the mind must also go to sleep to recharge. Leave your meditation for the early morning.

Then, I simply get still in my bed. Usually, I don’t move my body until I awaken. My entire body stays in one place, never restless as I sleep. I believe the reason for this is that I have explicitly instructed my body to be at peace and have provided the necessary means to give it rest and replenishment.

SLEEP: Our Greatest Gift for a Healthy Mind & Body #sleep #insomnia #self-discovery #InfiniteMind #SOM

But if you are one of 60 Million insomniacs in America, you know that sleep is a gift. You may also know that the lack of sleep can alter your world in terrible ways.
  • More that 30% of the population suffers from insomnia;
  • One in three people suffer from some sort of insomnia in their lifetimes;
  • More than half of Americans lose sleep because of stress or anxiety;
  • Women are up to twice as likely to have insomnia;
  • Between 40% and 60% of people over the age of 60 suffer from insomnia; and
  • 90% of people who suffer from depression, also experience insomnia.
For five years, in my early thirties, I had terrible insomnia. I would be exhausted, easily fall asleep when my head hit the pillow, but I would awaken 2 hours later. I would jump out of bed as if adrenaline surged through my veins. My heart raced, my body quivered, and I couldn’t return to sleep if I tried. Often, I would get out of bed and take a walk in the middle of the night, just to induce fatigue. Sometimes, I would have enough energy to run around the block a couple of times, before exhausting myself again. Sleep was hard to come by. So, I certainly am compassionate to the many clients I have had over the past 30 years who come to me distraught because of lack of sleep.

There is hope. I promise. I am the poster boy for Insomnia. I have suffered from it and can honestly say that I am 99% over the problem. Only when I have done something stupid such as drink a cup of espresso or eat chocolate cake before bed will I have problems getting to sleep. Otherwise, I have made the transition to adjusting back to a normal sleep cycle. I enjoy sleep now and often even take naps without the fear of a restless night.

Most people with sleep problem can find sleep a possibility with just one tidbit of knowledge about how humans fall asleep. This is that fact.

If you are using any part of your reasoning mind, you CANNOT fall asleep. If you are imagining something or dreaming about something (picturing it in your mind) you are 100% more likely to fall asleep.

This one simple fact can change your world. It did mine. I had no idea how much I used bedtime to deliberate my day, plan for the morrow, and worry about the problems that lay therein.

Bedtime is for rest. Tell yourself this many times, before you ever hit the pillow. Turn off the television long before you go to bed. Get rid of distractions. Sleep is your gift from God and an absolute Must if you want your mind and body to remain healthy. As you can see by the facts above, if you don’t have sleep, your health will decline considerably.

Hypnosis was the key to unlocking the issue of insomnia for me. Going to hypnotherapy for Insomnia was how I became a clinical hypnotist. Understanding how to get out of the human body and how to become the observer of the body is truly the only way I could get to sleep. Now, I use this same concept to meditate, as well. The only difference between the two is that in meditation, you are more likely to want to keep a minimum amount of consciousness to be able to perceive the sleep state. Inducing sleep is similar to meditation, except that your goal is not to remain conscious.

With 10 million people using sleep aids in the United States, you’d have to understand that all of us should be a little more concerned about this problem, than we have been.

Who do you think would be more likely to commit road rage: a person who has had 8 hours of great sleep, or someone who has had 3 or 4 hours of sleep in two days?

Yes, this is underlying the majority of rage and problematic behavior in the world. Combine sleep problems with narcissism and you have a deadly match that could result insane behavior, for sure.

So, take the time today to investigate your issue with sleep. I’ve been working with sleep disorders for 25 years. I’d be happy to help you through some of your issues with clinical hypnosis and life coaching. I do my sessions online, so you can even have your session in bed, so that you can go directly to sleep during the hypnosis session. You must have a laptop or a notebook to do these sessions, either on Skype or Facetime. You can give me a call at 954-253-6493. My fee is $95 for an hour. More information below!

Sleep Problems: Deductive and Inductive Reasoning #sleepproblems #insomnia #self-discovery #InfiniteMind #SOM

For many years I have likened deductive reasoning to the part of the brain that produces mathematics. Take an absolute and true observation and apply it to a thought. By default you receive a truthful resolve.

I had likened the inductive mind with the dream state, because it starts with theory and tries to prove theory from logical inference. Most science rejects the theories based on inductive thinking because of this rather backward process.

In spirituality, and especially when we are trying to meditate, I have always said that we must move away from deductive thought and move toward inductive thought to get out of the process of the brain that keeps us reasoning.

In other words, to fall asleep, you must be dreaming instead of using the part of the brain that formulates things: like grocery lists, thinking about what happened to you that day and trying to decided what to do about it, going over ideas in your mind, etc. These things use the process in the brain that will always keep you awake.

However, when you disengage from logic output and focus in on the part of the brain that creates, it is easy to induce sleep. Sleep and dream are almost a simultaneous action when it comes to the science of sleep. If you can imagine, usually you will have no problem falling asleep.

Whereas, people who have trouble imagining anything in their minds, have a harder time falling asleep. Why is this so? These latter types of people use the part of their brain that recapitulates what has already happened and goes over it and over it in their minds, creating a sort of looping effect. As long as you use this reasoning part of your mind, you can’t really sleep.

My use of the word Inductive for the dreaming part of the mind is probably a misnomer. It seemed reasonable to me that the inductive would be the opposite of the deductive. But, as I study more about the two states of mind, I realize that I have been operating on supposition. So, I have used the polarities of thinking in helping people fall asleep or get into a meditative state.

We know that for certain the deductive mind uses profound truth to reason. The part of the mind that “reasons” is the part of the mind that will keep you awake. Whereas, the part of the mind that imagines is the part of the mind that will help you sleep. There! Instead of using the terms inductive and deductive reasoning to help you understand how to meditate, I’ll begin to use the words REASONING and IMAGINING. This will give us a much clearer idea of when we are causing a consistent looping of thoughts that keeps us awake. Or, when we use the imagination to create in our minds, which induces a meditative or dream state.

If you have been confused by my use of the deductive and inductive reasoning, I apologize. From this day forward, it’s only REASONING V. IMAGINING for me!

Insomnia: Quieting a Chattering Mind #insomnia #meditation #anxiety #panicattacks

Insomnia: Quieting a Chattering Mind
#insomnia #meditation #anxiety #panicattacks

Most nights, I find it fairly easy to sleep. In the past, I would have considered myself an insomniac, no doubt. I would spend the first hour in bed tossing and turning, looking at the clock, and thinking every thought imaginable. When I became a hypnotist, I primarily sought out hypnotism because of my desire to get a full night’s sleep and to be able to fall asleep more easily. Honestly, after my first session, I felt as if I had found the secret to peace. Occasionally, I will have a sleepless night. But, I don’t believe these occasional events are as a result of an insomniatic sleep pattern. I feel it is more a surge of adrenaline or based on a poor diet just before I decide to sleep. Both can be troublesome when it comes to a good night’s sleep. Caffeine and sugar and simple carbohydrates are the worst things to eat before sleep. Some, also, find it hard to sleep after eating something hard to digest, such as beef.

The first action to take, if you are an insomniac, is to get all electrical devices out of your bedroom. Make your sleep area your place for peace and serenity. Absolutely, no televisions! If you have a small Mp3 device to play soothing music or hypnosis Mp3s, then that would be okay. Keep your computer and printer out of your room. I even dim the light on my alarm clock to almost black. I cover all my windows and keep the light out, especially, if I want to sleep past sunrise, which most of us are able to do.

Our bodies exist on a circadian rhythm that dictates when we rise and sleep. This is due to the rise and fall of the sun. If you get used to sleeping when it is appropriate, your body will do what it does naturally and fall into this nighttime sleep pattern and stay awake when the sun comes up.

Before you go to bed, you can do a few relaxing yoga poses. If you have an exercise roller, just lay on the roller. Allow the roller to relax the sides of the legs (the IT band) and the front of the legs, by rolling down from the top of the leg to the knee, resting in areas that ache. Breathe into the achy places. Take deep breaths while you do this. Remember, you are not trying to stimulate your heart, but trying to relax it. So, don’t do anything that will cause strain or stress to your muscles. Stretch and relax. That’s it!

When you actually get into bed, make sure that you set an intention to sleep, not to daydream or plan the next day. “The bed is for sleep.” You might want to repeat that a few times. When you find a comfortable place with pillows between your legs and hugging another down pillow, which is what I do, then let your body melt into the bed as if your were made of wax, and the bed is a soothing warm surface, changing all of your body to a mushy slush.

Lie still and listen to your breath. If you have to control your breath, first, breathing in for 5 or 6 counts, then exhaling with the same count for about ten breaths, that’s okay. But, the objective in sleep is to watch the breath and your body from as far away from the physical senses as you can get. In other words, you want to imagine that your mind is on the ceiling watching your body on the bed. Some think about sending their thoughts to their toes. If you want to listen to a thought, you have to imagine your mind is in your feet.

Eventually, you will fall into a deep sleep. If you find that your mind begins to chatter, you can gently lead your mind back to the path of rest by saying your mantra: “The bed is for sleep. Sleep is my place to rest my mind and body!”

Finding Authentic You is a self-help guide with 365 Discoveries, meant to aid you in facilitating some of life’s most difficult challenges, like sleep. But, the discoveries also lead you to what you believe spiritually, understanding your goals, learning to believe in your self, discovering the most distinct you, unlocking all of your negative thinking, and helping you replace it with positive, creative thought using many different modalities, including hypnosis, prayer, and psychology. Once you know yourself, then relationship with Spirit and people is a fairly easy task.

Listen, I really need your help to buy my new book (below) and share it with friends. No project in this world launches without a community of people who value its importance. This is why I have made it $2.99 for the download version.

For much more information about finding out about the psychology of the human mind and being your authentic self, self-love, and self-esteem, check out my new book below. “Finding Authentic You” will answer many of the questions I propose above. The book also has many discoveries about health, both mental and physical, as well as spiritual discoveries to lead you to your highest and best! Fear of Letting Go and Insomnia

Fear of Letting Go and Insomnia!

After a three-day jaunt of stomach virus, I blinked my eyes this morning and realized I had been asleep for almost 48 hours solidly. I can hardly remember what I did, yesterday, I was so out of my body and out of my mind. When your body aches, the natural instinct of the spirit is to let go of the body and it’s pain and sleep.
This is how we heal naturally. Some people, however, will not let go of their bodies for fear they may die. Their fear of death outweighs the desire to get well.

In yoga the final pose of the asana, the movement portion, is call svasana. It means literally, corpse pose. You would have to wonder why the Ayurvedics decided that at the end of a hard workout you would need to be as still as a corpse to allow for your cells and your mind to memorize and absorb all the good work you have done in the workout.

The Vedic principals were fairly simple when broken down to the bare bones: if the human body is out of the way, then you will experience God, the creator. If you are made by God, you must essential be made of God. So, the breath—which keeps the body alive—held great importance to them. If a yogi could almost still the breath and find herself hovering over the body in a mock sleep and still be awake enough to experience the bliss, she hovered in the realm of God.

So, not letting go of the body from fear, could be a way that you prohibit yourself from healing. Most insomniacs have some fear of being out of control, so sleep alludes them. Primarily, sleep is when you are not in control at all. In fact, needing to be in control could cause a myriad of problems while you sleep.

In sleep, my goal is to put my body to rest with progressive relaxation or focus on the breath to quiet the body. I often imagine that my breath progressively retreats toward my feet. In other words, I imagine breathing from my mouth, then my heart, then my belly, then my knees, then my feet. When you can get your attention away from you head and thinking deliberate thoughts, often you allow your mind to quiet enough to sleep.

I have dealt with insomnia for many years. In fact, I got hooked on Ambien after a stint of being just fine with sleep. I suppose, if I look back, I can find the hook that got me stuck in an insomniatic loop of sleeplessness. Most people have some kind of anxiety that keeps them away while thinking deliberate thoughts. “What am I going to do without him? How will I pay the bills? What will I do to be the most prepared for work tomorrow?” You can’t sleep while you are in your deductive mind. It’s impossible. So, your mind might be awake, while your body is asleep, which usually is the case for insomniacs.

We go into a sort of trance state, and when the mind begins to get more anxious it wakes us from moving in the direction of sleep. Also, having a weak bladder can also contribute to insomnia. I know in times like that, I’m up about 3-4 times in a night in the bathroom.

To calm the issue of a weak bladder, you could take a mild sedative or an anxiety medication to keep your body feeling tired. This will lead you toward sleep. But, if you haven’t worked out your anxiety, you probably will find that it doesn’t matter how tired you, you won’t sleep restfully.

I have gone through this. I know from which I speak. Now, when I go to sleep, my mind must be clear and ready for rest. I take quiet time between watching television and going to bed. I usually do a set of relaxation exercises or stretches from yoga for about 15 minutes before I lay in bed. I do NOT have a television in my bedroom. If you have one, get rid of it. You may be ignoring sleep problems or even creating them by having a loud television blaring in the background of solid sleep. This scenario isn’t a good one.

Ultimately, if you have struggles with sleep, I would go to a hypnotist. The process of being self-hypnotized is the exact process the body needs for sleep. You probably have to teach yourself how to rest, as your body and mind have unlearned what naturally is a gift.
