The Passing of a Friend: The Message in the Now #death #dying #grief #spiritualadvice

At the end of the discovery blog, yesterday, I promised that, today, I would discuss the Message in the Now. As it turns out, late last evening, I got a phone call telling me that my pastor’s wife had passed earlier that day. I went to sleep thinking about how that news changed my world and, certainly, the world of my beloved friend and pastor. I wondered, indeed, what the message in the now sent my pastor and, also, trusted that he would have the opportunity to ponder that gift.

As I meditated before I went to sleep, I began to think about the many ways that Source had given the pastor opportunities to enjoy the last couple of years of his marriage. His wife’s cancer diagnosis was laden with early grief, but also gave the couple the opportunity to plan for the ending, if it came, two years before her human body’s demise. Knowing, not knowing someone will pass—I know there probably is little difference in the end, when it comes to grief. But, after the initial time of despair, I’m sure my pastor will look back at the last two years as a divine gift from Source.

Every relationship will come to an end, whether in one leaving or one passing. This is humanity in action. Reconciling this with our hearts is important in living in the now in every relationship in our lives. Actually knowing the end for him was, indeed, a powerful gift. I have had the opportunity to help people in palliative care make their transitions. The process can be beautiful if dealt with in a spiritual way, honoring life’s ultimate cycle.

So, this gift is in every present moment. If we deny the NOW and take an alternative path to our reality, through the future or the past, we deny spirit’s gift. The present is the gift. I suppose that’s why we call the now, a present. The word present has two very separate, but, perhaps, equal meanings. One meaning signifies the now, the other means a gift. Same word, same meaning.

Finding the meaning in the now sometimes takes faith. Maybe the meaning of the now will be revealed to you later. For instance, if you are jobless and go for an important job interview, the now may be finding out that you didn’t get that beloved and perfect job. The gift, however, may be in the faith, knowing that an even better job is waiting for you.

This situation happened to someone close to me. She looked for a job for eight months. Finally, she had an interview that seemed perfect. She didn’t get the job. As the family continued to believe the right and perfect job was there for her, she ended up having two consecutive interviews just as her savings had run out. She got hired for both jobs and was able to decide which job would better serve her. In the end, the gift was garnering faith and belief. She is a better person for having to wait for her good. Her faith has increased and so has her positivity about life.

The now, though it may look like a heap of dung sometimes, often holds our greatest lessons and gifts if we are willing to look at them. The universe always wants the biggest and best for you. Often, we don’t even know what that is. But Source does.

We must trust that the biggest and best always exists in the mind of God; therefore, it exists in you. The now is your present. Take it, unwrap it, and discover its usefulness in your life. (This novel below, The Leaving Cellar, is about the passing of a beloved wife. I know you'll enjoy this Southern take on a heartfelt and sometimes funny love story.)

Navigating Death and Dying

A dear friend of mine passed early this morning so unexpectedly, so early—at fifty, at the height of her talent, her beautiful singing and acting talent. I had the pleasure of working with her often enough to know her heart and her inner voice. My soul aches at the loss of her humanness. But, Even though we may be grieving, consider this: The passing of a human soul can be to our benefit, especially when we have a soul connection to that person as she was in a human body. Now she is in spirit, acting as Spirit, completely and totally.

No soul dies—ever. It goes on—to where? we certainly don’t know. But, I am sure, the soul continues on a spiritual journey far beyond my imagination. My hope is that these souls will continue learning, and, perhaps, they may even come back to help the soul clusters that they were living with as humans. I have always felt the divine presence of some of my closest friends who have passed. I know I’ve spoken of it before. You can look up my blog: “Linda Has Passed, Now What?” to find out my views about this.

But, what I want to touch on today is the prayer I was led to in my morning meditation. First, I felt my friend’s presence all around me, as I began to speak. Remember, if she is one in God, and I am one in God, then we are One!

So, I shared this truth with her spirit, and maybe with my own as I began, “We are one today, more One than I had ever imagined, so soon, and so quickly. But, I’m thankful for your transition to perfection, because I know that Spirit does everything perfectly and in perfect timing. So, I’m knowing that you and I, and all the people you have touched are ONE right now, rejoicing in the life we shared together on earth and collectively, with the angels, readying you for your journey onward and forward. I release you to the law of life, knowing that your soul will always be with me. Be happy, be free, be completely and totally LOVE! And so it is!”

On #Death and #Dying

I woke up this morning, meditated, and then began my usual routine of taking the dog for a walk, drinking a 1/2-cup of coffee, and writing my daily blog. Before that, however, an urgent nudge directed me to read some recent updates on Facebook. I immediately found that my dearest friend’s mother had passed away just hours before. I’m so far away by distance, but my heart felt as if I was there with her when it happened. Before I left Nashville, we visited her mother together, and we all prayed together at her bedside. Just weeks before that, her father died. I feel so helpless right now, because I wish I could hug her.

At times like this, I contemplate death and the purpose of life here on earth. I often quote Dan Baker, who wrote the book, What Happy People Know. He speaks of a woman who had survived cancer, only to have gotten the diagnosis again. When he asked he what she thought of happiness, she said:

“Every moment that’s ever been, or ever will be, is gone the instant it’s begun. So life is loss. And the secret of happiness is to learn to love the moment more than you mourn the loss.”

Notice she doesn’t say “but” she says, “and”… “the secret of happiness is to learn to love the moment more than you mourn the loss.” There are no “buts” in death or happiness. They are both exact mental equivalents. Without the knowledge of one, you can’t totally be liberated to happiness.

When a death impacts my life, I soon realize that what I mourn is my own ephemeral existence, every time. We don’t have much time on the earth. If you’re lucky to have spent more than fifty years on this earth, you know what I’m talking about, when I say, that time continues to speed up the older you get. This accelerating continuum only gets faster and then you face the inevitable. If this is the case, then what exactly are we here for?

We recognize in times like these that we haven’t stepped up to the plate, most times, and haven’t done what the Universal Law of Love has been encouraging us to do for so long. If I get anything from this moment, it’s that I want to spend more time delving deeper into my commitment to God and the Universe for the rest of my time on earth.
Pray for the loss, yes. Grieve the loss, absolutely! But encourage yourself, in a time like this, to make the most of every relationship, every opportunity to be loving, compassionate, and make an impact on this earth!

return to love

Preparing for the Death of a Loved One!

Sometimes life hands us hard lessons in the form of death and sickness. But, we must always remember in those times that we are vessels of wholeness and love, no matter what we go through. Our affirmation is still the same. God is love and peace; therefore, I am love and peace!
When an impending death looms around you, the first obstacle is not to be sucked into the mire of depression and anxiety of those around you or into the pain of the person suffering. You will inevitably feel some of these human emotions, no matter what; but, stay focused on the purpose of your presence.
First, do you even know what are the intentions and desires of the person dying? Does he or she want to stay in an empty shell of a painful body—just for you? Or would he or she rather be released from that dying body and be in an eternal place of love and compassion—painfree?
My inclinations are that most souls would much rather meet God as the light, than stay in pain. Usually, and not always, the soul that is dying is very connected to those around him or her—friends, family, a particular loved one. So, a soul will often wait to depart until those around him want or allow the spirit to depart into the hands of the Ever-Loving Creator, even though they are in incredible pain.
The second thing we must always desire to be is: God’s purpose. You would not be praying amiss if you would ask God and the Universe what it is for you to do in the moment.
Maybe you just need to sit there silently, allowing a love one to grieve. Maybe you need to be the voice of reason: “It would be okay for you to let go now! _________ is in the loving hands of God, ready to depart this pain.” Or, maybe you just need to weep, as the tears are symbols of cleansing for your own soul and those around you.
In summary, death, no matter if it is an actual person or the death of a job or relationship, grief is inevitable. But, more importantly, as you grow in your spiritual health, you must realize that “all things are happening in accordance to the perfect will of God.” Not just some things, but all things! So, recognize this in your affirmations.
Because God is always peace, I am peace too. Since God is always love and forgiveness, then, I, too, am love and forgiveness, no matter the situation!
