Constructing a Jigsaw Puzzle with Broken Pieces
#transformation #releasingthepast
I have constructed a few jigsaw puzzles in my fifty-three years. I remember finishing one particular puzzle of a beautiful Burma Railway over the River Khwae Yai. After finding all the edges first, then beginning the tedious task of assembling the numerous and often oddly shaped, interlocking and tessellating pieces, I realized that three of the main puzzle pieces were broken and a few were even lost, leaving the beautiful picture I was to follow as a pattern from the front cover of the box, looking a bit like an old bridge with some of its basic assembly torn and tattered. This pictured remained in my mind like a mistaken tattoo gotten on a drunken evening.
Jigsaw puzzles were initially a picture painted on a large board, then cut apart with a jig saw; hence, the name. John Spillbury, an English cartographer, is credited for beginning the mass craze in the late 1700s. Puzzle enthusiasts can spend hundreds of hours constructing 5000-piece jigsaw puzzles; sometimes, even varnishing and displaying them in beautiful frames.
I don’t suppose I would have wanted to display the last puzzle I completed, because it had been constructed with broken and missing pieces. How beautiful could a puzzle be if it has broken pieces?
I often feel this way when I take a panoramic view of my own life, watching from above like a eagle in flight. I see fragments of beauty. I see roads leading to paths unknown. I see a great deal of pain. I see graves for that which I lost. But, mostly, what I notice more than any one thing is missing pieces, parts I can’t define or piece together in a way that seem to interlock and hold fast. I imagine that those pieces of my life must be broken or simply not be fitting together correctly. So, I leave those pieces sitting on the side of my life until I understand where they belong.
In times past, I would try to stuff the pieces into a places in my life that seemed to have a hole there, but not exactly matching the curves and angles of the piece of the puzzle I held in my hand. In those times, I had realized that I’d often broken the puzzle piece by trying to fit it somewhere it shouldn’t have been in the first place.
I believe, now, that life would be okay with a few missing pieces. In fact, if the puzzle were completely constructed, my life would feel as it were coming to a close. If that were the case, the only action left to do would be to deconstruct it or display it. I’m not sure which I would choose, but know I want to continue on the path of constructing my life piece by piece. This is living in the now, taking the parts of your life given to you by spirit and managing them as best as you can—even the broken pieces a place if you wait long enough. I know that many times, years later, I have been able to take an old pain or heartbreak and fit the piece into a perfect place in my life’s puzzle. I find reason and understanding where I could see it before, leaving room for more self-compassion, first, and usually for the other person who seemed to stymie the construction of a particular part of my life.
No puzzle is perfect when it comes to life. Be amazed at the missing parts, knowing that God’s intention is to find the exact measure for every space left empty in your heart and mind.

Like a Butterfly
#transformation #butterflies
No living creature on earth fascinates me more than the caterpillar on its journey to become its destiny—the butterfly. What an awesome metaphor for moving toward our spiritual destiny, flying on the wings of spirit. But, as anyone knows who has asked for guidance on this spiritual journey, it’s not an easy one. Like the caterpillar starting off crawling close to the earth, our minds and bodies have a primal inclination, a preeminent surge toward the hunger of an animal, rather than a spirit having a predilection for open air and unfathomable skies. To that end, I look to the butterfly for wisdom.
The caterpillar doesn’t spend much time on earth crawling around. In fact, it’s main destiny is to find a secure place to gestate (meditate), wrapped in its own silken safety. When it finds this place, it doesn’t ask questions, it simply waits for transformation to take place—in the silence—in the present. I have often felt the silence of a cocoon and thought, perhaps, my wings were forming, spiritually. However, when I desired to fly, I fell straight on to my face.
I once watched a butterfly eat its way out of a cocoon and then try to fly. At first, it couldn’t take flight. Actually, I had never seen a butterfly so large and beautiful. With colors from brown to green, exotic and lovely, it was the size of a small bird. I accepted the challenge of helping it. It hopped on to my finger without despair or fear. I walked to the front yard where many trees flourished in the spring wind. Suddenly, its moist wings began to dry in the sun and it flapped them, as I carefully balanced it on my finger.
With one swift move, the butterfly jumped off of my finger and began to fly. I will always remember that moment, as I realized sometimes even the master’s work needs a little nudge to move to its destiny. In that moment, I was an angel for that butterfly. It never looked back or came around for a visit. It simply went on to its destiny in the boundless blue sky, hopping from tree to tree, from beautiful flower to beautiful flower.
I know, someday, for all of us, that our wings will grow strong like the butterfly. But, I am also praying, that on our journey toward that day that we don’t tarry as we find our place of refuge in meditation and prayer. For there we will begin the amazing metamorphosis to our ultimate destiny.

New Me for a New Year—I Am Bo #iambo
New Me for a New Year—I Am Bo
#iambo
I am not the person I was when I experienced ten, twenty,
thirty, forty or even fifty years old. I am Bo—ever-evolving, ever-changing,
open to the wide road ahead for a new vista.
Please don’t judge me by what I have done in the past. I am
completely remade, fashioned by the work that the light of spirit refracts
through me, every day, every minute, every second. Even I don’t perceive all my
power yet!
I am a child of unlimited source. I become stronger as I
allow more of myself to be a conduit to this perfect presence. My strength
carries me on my road each day as I do the will of the wind—following its
flawless path. I make a pact with the present to be open for each new moment. This
year, I commit to enjoy the anticipation of the next experience much more often
than I linger in my past disasters and hurts.
I am Bo, a strong warrior for good.
I resist the temptation to fly solo. I need you, my friends,
my family, my allies, and even my perceived enemies to be whole. All things
work together for the good of all around me, even those whom I don’t know. One
grace-filled moment of compassion could change the course of humanity. As I am
changed, I give everyone around me the permission to shine, conquer, and achieve
their goals and aspirations.
I am an ever-flowing fountain of water, endless because my
roots go deep into the earth’s bosom to receive from it all that I need to be a
human, carrying the gift of God’s spirit through my veins. This wellspring of
nourishment I share with all those around me, because it is my nature to give
and receive with poise.
I am Bo. I offer myself up to humanity in the hopes, that
you, too, will find the grace to do the same. You are ___________!

New Challenge: Go to Week 9 of the “Year
to CLEAR Challenge” at www.Bosebastian.com
______________________________________________
Look for MY LATEST BOOK: “Finding Authentic You, 7 Steps to Effective Change” with a
Year to CLEAR (C-larity, L-ove, E-nthusiasm A-nd R-elationship-Ready) on my
Website in the Webstore. Thanks!
Below is information that I will be sharing for about a
month, as not every person on my list reads the blog every day. If you have
already read it, just skip over it. Thanks for understanding.
A
Year to CLEAR Challenge:
(Please Know: You Can Join Us At Any Point in the Year
Challenge.)
The masses search outward for things that qualify them as a
person, but I always go inward for that which quantifies me for greatness. At
twenty-five I preached on street corners in NYC as an in-the-closet Pentecostal
minister. One day I heard a still small voice say, ‘God cannot be contained in a
book or a law or even in a religion. Dig deeper, reach further to find me, and
you will find your authentic Self.’”
A Year to CLEAR Challenge!
The acronym CLEAR
stands for (Compassionate, Loving,
Enthusiastic, And Relationship-Ready). The goal of this project is to
engulf readers in a weekly study that will transform them by removing blocks,
promote self-growth, and give them wings to fly freely into daily life. Each
week, by going to BoSebastian.com and choosing the Year to CLEAR Challenge tab,
a new challenge or thought to provoke conversation, growth, and group
functionality.
My vision is to make Finding Authentic You the book to
have in your Kindle or on your computer. The book is a comprehensive look at
growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically.
As a yoga teacher and student of the Ayurvedic tradition, I bring
to the table understanding of physical challenges, the ability to overcome
mental problems with Life & Health Coaching, as well as hypnotherapy, and
expertise in meditation and spirituality as a minister.
The combination of all three in one book with an interactive
connection to like-minded readers, for one year, is what makes this Year to
CLEAR Challenge a must-do for every spiritual seeker.
The One-Year Approach to Change
No one believes he or she can change overnight. But success in
change comes from the metaphors of nature. Seasonally, life changes all around
us in nature. Finding Authentic You offers a gradual change perspective,
looking at the triune aspects of change as in yoga: Body, Mind and Spirit.
Accessing the
ability to change and finding
yourself actually pursuing change must be a daily search, which I call
getting to the “observer mind.”
In this frontal cortex of the brain we find the anatomy of
change and the power to counter every negative trigger of the human process.
The workings of Hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) are all positive actions to help the
mind and body flow to a positive space for change.
Every aspect of FINDING AUTHENTIC YOU fulfills this
constant need for diffusing the negative past and dreaming of a fulfilling
future.
Step 1: Recognize That Change is Inevitable
Step 2: Release from Resistance
to Change
Step 3: Understanding Change and Allow Spirit to Define It
Step 4: A History Lesson—About You
Step 5: Look at Your Past with Compassion
Step 6: Making a Strong Commitment to Change
Step 7: Dream Your Fabulous Future
