Fixing the Debt #fixingdebt #spiritualdebt #spiritualadvice #livingtruth

Someone once said to me that, if I could understand my reason for being here on earth, I would find peace. I have found many reasons to contribute to humanity, but true peace often eludes me. With what measure we give to humanity, should we expect back something in return? Can we actually know what life owes us for our mere existence on this earth? Or are we causing a spiritual debt with each lie, fear, or anxiety?
“Okay, God, I am doing my best to be a good person. I help people every day. I put aside my own wants for the greater good. I try to love unconditionally. I forgive those whom no one else wants to forgive. I preach about truth to anyone who will listen. I make a joyful noise. But, what do I get in return? Is there something… anything?”
This often is the prayer that plays in the background of our minds, when things go wrong or if someone treats us unfairly or our hearts get broken from a breach in trust with someone we love. Will peace ever be ours to hold on to forever? Or, are we expecting something tangibly intangible in reciprocity for all that we do?
Debt. Debt. And more debt.
Every time we do something good and expect a return for our deeds—even in loving another person as close as your partner—we are tallying up the debt in our minds. Eventually, when we do not get a pay out, we will realize that we are like the gambling addict who has lost everything, waiting for the big pay-off. Eventually, we walk away from life rejected, dejected, and feeling worthless.
How in the world do we change a paradigm of reciprocity that is so deeply engrained in our minds and bodies? We work to get paid. We love to get love back. We have children to have someone to love unconditionally, but somewhere in our minds the expectation becomes unconditional love in return. We plant a garden to get crops. We go to college in expectation for a brighter future. Almost everything in our human life holds a reciprocating reason for doing it or achieving it.
These thoughts are deeply engrained into the attachment processes of our minds, wired like the telephone circuitry of a multi-million dollar business office. How many debts are we going to leave on hold, while we wait for our one blessed return to answer our prayer for peace, or love, or prosperity?
Have you considered living life without expectation? What would that be like? Loving without expecting anything in return. Learning because we want to understand. Working because it feels right. Is it possible to live life without the expectation of reciprocity?
Today, simply consider how many actions you take in life expecting some kind of return, even if you absolutely know you will never get it.

Twas the Day Before the Night Before Christmas…

…And all through the apartment, every piece of furniture was moved to make room for the tree, gifts, cards, special cookies, and food prepared about three days in advance. If my mother would have her wish, she would have already had the family dinner and have cleaned up. She starts making lists for Christmas dinner on October 1st. I have to gently tell her that green beans won’t last ten days in the refrigerator without wilting and turning brown. “Oh,” she says. Then, the next day, “Could you go to the store for me? I need green beans.” If you looked up anxious in the dictionary, I know my mother’s picture would be there, right by the definition.

I think of that fun kind of childish, anxious behavior we have when no one is looking, and we shake the gift boxes under the tree. Or when we expect someone special to arrive at a celebration. I love those feelings, but I have learned to tamp down my own excitement as an adult, and sometimes, I take away the passion and the fun from the event, simply by being old enough to know that “with expectation often comes disappointment.”

I suppose this is why adults get more excited for the children at Christmas. We see in their eyes what we once coveted. We marvel at their passion. We even take loads of videos and pictures because we know, eventually, that this excitement will wane, even for the youth.

Yesterday evening, I spent four hours rehearsing for a Christmas Eve musical celebration. This was the ensemble’s first time singing the songs with a five-piece band. Every song was a virtual disaster the initial time through. Nothing went according to expectation. All of the sound was different, because we used microphones and monitors to hear each other, now, rather than singing around a grand piano with just one instrument. However, about three hours into the rehearsal, the musicians began to hear each other and get excited about the music we made—together. For a while, individual egos were thinking about words, parts, and staging. But when the egos began to dissolve into the unity of the whole, beauty arose like a phoenix.

Singers who have been holding back or had been uncomfortable with a part, suddenly, took to the spotlight and shined. It was a wonderful sight. What began with clunking out notes to a cacophony of sounds for each part had now become an orchestra of harmony and unity.

Any holiday season mirrors what we hope all people would be like throughout the entire year. For just a few days, most people around the world share Hope, Joy, Love, Giving, and Togetherness. In so doing, I believe, we set the stage for a great metaphor for everyone to see in our daily lives. So, as we gather to celebrate together, let us all put aside our differences, our pettiness, and especially our egos, and experience what I felt last night watching individual egos become one powerful voice!

Objectivity vs. Expectation #painful expectation

Objectivity vs. Expectation  #paininexpecation

If you are not dependant on your mind for the existence of substance in your life, you are an objective person. If you are dependant on any outcome of a circumstance, you are most likely held captive by expectation, which can mean the difference between anxiety or peace, stress or letting your life flow easily and freely.

Take a lesson today from a seed. Once you actually place it in the soil, the tiny representation of something large and magnificent takes time to gestate in the darkness. I would liken this to our creative mind or dream state. Soon the seed breaks forth from its protective shell, as a small, tender shoot arrives, pointing toward the light. At this point in gardening, you must be very careful to nurture the tiny seedling until it begins to grow leaves. By the time it has two or three leaves, you are safe to transplant the small plant or till around it to give it room to grow. Either way this part of growth represents the manifestation process that is the most tenuous of all. When we dream and step out into our vision, the first few steps can be filled with drawback and failure. Many of my seedlings die every year. But some—I don’t know why or which ones—become strong and overpower the more tender ones to make it to fully-grown.

Some dreams are simply meant to manifest quickly; others take time and diligence. Then, sometimes, dreams just aren’t meant to be. You must be willing to hand in the towel after a certain amount of time and simply give the process to God. I might say the prayer, “If this is supposed to be, then let me understand in a big way, I can begin to work at this once again!”

I recently thought that I was inspired by spirit to start a huge, new website project that would be interactive and have people all over the world growing together spiritually. After finding a designer, submitting my designs, working three months day and night, and even buying the website address, I realized that Deepak Chopra and Oprah had done exactly what I had dreamed to do, but only much bigger than I could ever afford. Fortunately, a friend emailed me with Oprah’s website before I spent way too much money on something that just wasn’t meant to be—at least, authored and fulfilled by me.

I still have all the nuts and bolts of the website and will use them in other ways on my current site, as with my weekly spiritual Challenge. If you haven’t tried yet, the challenges are a way to keep you focused on spiritual growth throughout the week. Though we are on the 8th week right now, you can still go back to number one and begin to take the challenge week by week at your own pace. The web address is www.bosebastian.com, then click on WEEKLY CHALLENGE.

So, in building a dream, when you come to a roadblock or an abrupt halt, it’s good to take careful note in how much your heart is attached to the outcome. If you sincerely thought spirit moved you to do something, then we have a certain amount of spiritual detachment from the manifestation of the end product, because ultimately, God is the author and finisher of that which is inspired by God. So, in the moment that I realized Oprah had made the same website, I assessed my own heart. I noticed that I had some heartache, but mostly relief that I hadn’t stepped into a great financial pit and never recovered. Sometimes our humanness misleads us. Sometimes we get an idea and grandiosity supersedes reality. In my case, a little of both existed. When I realized my folly, I simply backed off and waited for a clearer picture of how I was to proceed. My current website reflects my guidance and spiritual effort.

New Challenge: Go to Week 8 of the “Year to CLEAR Challenge” at www.Bosebastian.com
______________________________________________

Look for MY LATEST BOOK:  “Finding Authentic You, 7 Steps to Effective Change” with a Year to CLEAR (C-larity, L-ove, E-nthusiasm A-nd R-elationship-Ready) on my Website in the Webstore. Thanks!

Below is information that I will be sharing for about a month, as not every person on my list reads the blog every day. If you have already read it, just skip over it. Thanks for understanding.

A Year to CLEAR Challenge:
(Please Know: You Can Join Us At Any Point in the Year Challenge.)

The masses search outward for things that qualify them as a person, but I always go inward for that which quantifies me for greatness. At twenty-five I preached on street corners in NYC as an in-the-closet Pentecostal minister. One day I heard a still small voice say, ‘God cannot be contained in a book or a law or even in a religion. Dig deeper, reach further to find me, and you will find your authentic Self.’”

A Year to CLEAR Challenge!

The acronym CLEAR stands for (Compassionate, Loving, Enthusiastic, And Relationship-Ready). The goal of this project is to engulf readers in a weekly study that will transform them by removing blocks, promote self-growth, and give them wings to fly freely into daily life. Each week, by going to BoSebastian.com and choosing the Year to CLEAR Challenge tab, a new challenge or thought to provoke conversation, growth, and group functionality.

My vision is to make Finding Authentic You the book to have in your Kindle or on your computer. The book is a comprehensive look at growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically.

As a yoga teacher and student of the Ayurvedic tradition, I bring to the table understanding of physical challenges, the ability to overcome mental problems with Life & Health Coaching, as well as hypnotherapy, and expertise in meditation and spirituality as a minister.

The combination of all three in one book with an interactive connection to like-minded readers, for one year, is what makes this Year to CLEAR Challenge a must-do for every spiritual seeker.

The One-Year Approach to Change

No one believes he or she can change overnight. But success in change comes from the metaphors of nature. Seasonally, life changes all around us in nature. Finding Authentic You offers a gradual change perspective, looking at the triune aspects of change as in yoga: Body, Mind and Spirit.

Accessing the ability to change and finding yourself actually pursuing change must be a daily search, which I call getting to the “observer mind.”

In this frontal cortex of the brain we find the anatomy of change and the power to counter every negative trigger of the human process. The workings of Hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) are all positive actions to help the mind and body flow to a positive space for change.

Every aspect of FINDING AUTHENTIC YOU fulfills this constant need for diffusing the negative past and dreaming of a fulfilling future.

Step 1: Recognize That Change is Inevitable
Step 2: Release from Resistance to Change
Step 3: Understanding Change and Allow Spirit to Define It
Step 4: A History Lesson—About You
Step 5: Look at Your Past with Compassion
Step 6: Making a Strong Commitment to Change
Step 7: Dream Your Fabulous Future
