#virginbirth "Was Mary a Virgin?"

#virginbirth “Was Mary a Virgin?”

Would your belief about Jesus the Christ change if someone found proof that the word virgin in Isaiah meant young girl instead of a virgin? Would you wonder why in two gospels Mark and John never mention the virgin birth and why the Apostle Paul twice cites about Jesus’ birth and never once mentions about the birth being by a virgin? Why also did it take more than a hundred years for this story of a virgin birth to become present in the scripture and in history?

I know this is a touchy subject. I’m with you on wanting to believe the miraculous, especially about Jesus. He is our hero, our king, and our savior. I want Mary to have been inseminated by God Himself to show the power and strength of our Lord and Savior. But there is so much evidence against this story of the virgin birth. I just wonder why more people aren’t talking about it and if it changes our belief about this powerful man and teacher, Jesus. In almost every other religion, including those that had arisen far before Jesus, a powerful teacher or anointed one had come from virgin births, as well, including Buddha whose mother Queen Maya was said to have conceived after having a vision of a white elephant. She also died seven days after the birth.

To me, if Jesus weren’t born from a virgin, then his journey as a human actually would amplify as greater in my mind. How did this man whom I’m to follow take his human shell and do the work of spirit and deny much of his human impulse? This is the kind of wonder that helps me recognize that I can, also, follow the leading of spirit instead of my ego, human self.

I’m not even going to tell you whether I believe or don’t believe the story of the virgin birth. It truly doesn’t matter when it comes to the miracle of Jesus himself. I can still stand firm in the other miraculous stories of the bible and of Jesus’ ministry to help me overcome my own thorns in the flesh. I also feel the presence of spirit with me each day. At one point in my search, Jesus appeared in a numerous visions to lead me and guide me. You may ask, “How did you know it was Jesus?” My answer is, I just did. Faith, which is instrumental in spiritual belief is paramount in everyone’s walk toward their own truth.

Could Mary have been a virgin? I guess the answer is: Do you need her to be to believe in Jesus?

Below is information that I will be sharing for about a month, as not every person on my list reads the blog every day. If you have already read it, just skip over it. Thanks for understanding.

A Year to CLEAR Challenge:
(Please Know: You Can Join Us At Any Point in the Year Challenge.)

The masses search outward for things that qualify them as a person, but I always go inward for that which quantifies me for greatness. At twenty-five I preached on street corners in NYC as an in-the-closet Pentecostal minister. One day I heard a still small voice say, ‘God cannot be contained in a book or a law or even in a religion. Dig deeper, reach further to find me, and you will find your authentic Self.’”

A Year to CLEAR Challenge!

The acronym CLEAR stands for (Compassionate, Loving, Enthusiastic, And Relationship-Ready). The goal of this project is to engulf readers in a weekly study that will transform them by removing blocks, promote self-growth, and give them wings to fly freely into daily life. Each week, by going to BoSebastian.com and choosing the Year to CLEAR Challenge tab, a new challenge or thought to provoke conversation, growth, and group functionality.

My vision is to make Finding Authentic You the book to have in your Kindle or on your computer. The book is a comprehensive look at growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically.

As a yoga teacher and student of the Ayurvedic tradition, I bring to the table understanding of physical challenges, the ability to overcome mental problems with Life & Health Coaching, as well as hypnotherapy, and expertise in meditation and spirituality as a minister.

The combination of all three in one book with an interactive connection to like-minded readers, for one year, is what makes this Year to CLEAR Challenge a must-do for every spiritual seeker.

The One-Year Approach to Change

No one believes he or she can change overnight. But success in change comes from the metaphors of nature. Seasonally, life changes all around us in nature. Finding Authentic You offers a gradual change perspective, looking at the triune aspects of change as in yoga: Body, Mind and Spirit.

Accessing the ability to change and finding yourself actually pursuing change must be a daily search, which I call getting to the “observer mind.”

In this frontal cortex of the brain we find the anatomy of change and the power to counter every negative trigger of the human process. The workings of Hypnosis, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) are all positive actions to help the mind and body flow to a positive space for change.

Every aspect of FINDING AUTHENTIC YOU fulfills this constant need for diffusing the negative past and dreaming of a fulfilling future.

7 Swans a Swimming #12daysofChristmas

7 Swans a Swimming #12daysofChristmas

I always wondered why on the 7th day of Christmas (7 is the number of completion in biblical history—the earth, humans, and worlds were formed), why did the writer pick seven swimming swans. These lovely water creatures are known for their fluidity and grace on the water, lofting to great heights and winding through waters with magnificence and elegance, but do they have any spiritual meaning?

In symbolism their appearance stands for intuition, for dreaming, emotions, and creativity. In this respect we can intuit swan energy as direction toward our dreams and feelings.

Intuition: One of our greatest gifts from spirit is our ability to sense direction when we listen to our hearts. We accept the poise of swan as we learn to object to ego’s drive toward perfection and praise and move toward grace and the delight of spirit’s wondrous movement in our lives.

Dreaming: The law of creation always begins with the energy a thought. So, swan reminds us to dream big, so that our creative abilities can manifest to the greatest degree. When we believe in the power of unlimited good, we challenge all of creation to draw to life like a magnet all that is right and perfect for your life.

Emotions: So, the one attribute of the swan that keeps us connected and grounded to the earth is emotion. You’ve heard the saying, “He’s so spiritual, he is of no earthly good!” Swan reminds us that we may be spiritual beings, but we are housed in an amazing body called human, as swan can walk around on earth. Our senses, our emotions, and our ability to live, breath, and have our being depend on the balance we have between our physical body and the power of spirit.

Though today is not the seventh day before Christmas, we can learn a lot from Seven Swans a Swimming. Because the next day of Christmas has us giving birth as “geese a laying.” And where the song comes to a large halt in the music is our golden rings, promised to us by the untarnished love of God, always available and never ending from eternity.

Falsely Accused: #rape #domesticabuse #falselyaccused

Falsely Accused: #rape #domesticabuse #falselyaccused

Many people inflict violent harm to others, businesses, and communities. Even the most heinous of those crimes must go to trial to be sure someone is rightly accused and convicted. This is a good thing. Have you ever spoken with someone who had been falsely accused, spent twenty years in a penitentiary with the violence and rape in prisons, then because of a new DNA test ended up released from prison? Imagine being that falsely accused person, or someone like Nelson Mandela or a person just doing his/her normal daily duties, who just so happened to look like a murderer. Or worse yet, being accused by a loved one out of vengeance for something such as domestic or sexual abuse. Moving through a trial and accusations is terrible to go through with anyone.

The one time I experienced a false allegation, first hand, was with a client. A husband and wife were filing for divorce. They had three children. The oldest of the children was a 16-year-old boy who became terribly angry at his father for stepping out on his mother with the father’s secretary. After listening to three months of violent fights between his parents, the young boy staged a sexual abuse case against his father. He told a friend’s parents his father had been abusing him. Of course, the friend’s parents brought him to the police station for protection and to tell his story to DCS.

When my client was called to the police station in the middle of the night after thinking her son had been missing for two hours, she was relieved and confused at the same time. Could this truly have happened under her roof? All signs actually pointed to the father not being guilty, but the proceedings went forward, with the father banned from the family until the ugly truth would come out.

After a polygraph test, the father was exonerated, and the child came clean to a counselor at the Department of Children Services. From what I know, the parents were never able to talk to the young boy about what really happened. I don’t believe the father, after four years, has had any kind of healthy relationship with his son.

Though the father wasn’t my client and had hurt the kids and their mother terribly by having an affair, my compassion still flowed toward him. The one time I had been accused of something I hadn’t done was one of the most painful times I had ever had to go through. Even my friends held me accountable until I was proven innocent. Even then, they remained suspicious and probably pulled away from my life, because, later, they became ashamed they hadn’t trusted me. This is not a win-win situation for anyone, even when you are exonerated.

But, my advice remains the same for anyone in this situation, no matter how severe the resistance or allegations are; be your authentic self. Don’t change in the face of someone else’s lies. Find ways to prove your innocence that may be out of the box. With me, I kept telling friends that I would love to get together with my accuser (and them) and talk it through. I had nothing to hide. When my accuser never came to the table; eventually, all of my friends and ministers decided the person making up the story wasn’t me. This process took almost a half a year of my life and lots of painful moment. I can’t imagine a Nelson Mandela story or someone being imprisoned falsely for a murder. These days false imprisonment happens less, because of DNA testing, but even then, you can be a part of a person’s daily life and have your DNA all over a home without being a perpetrator.

Life is difficult. But the law is even more tenuous when it’s up to the accused to find a fail-safe story with corroborating evidence to support one’s innocence. If you just happened to be alone the night of a murder and were watching television with no one knowing of your whereabouts, you are simply out of luck. With the dawn of cell phones and GPS information connected to the phones, just by making one phone call that night when you’re by yourself, can sometimes be the proof you need to show you were nowhere near the scene of the crime, especially if yourself cell phone remained in the on position all night.

I’m not so certain why I chose this subject this morning. It’s a Sunday near Christmas and my heart is thinking about false imprisonment. Maybe I need to do some self-inquiry on myself to understand where my metaphoric heart may be holding fast to a lie from the past. I know I always feel better when I question myself about my thoughts and action. My mind is connected to an intricate network of thoughts and patterns and attachments from my past, like a computer. If I understand the connections, I am most likely to be an observer of my actions than feel I AM my thoughts and actions. Being the observer is a much more powerful place to exist.

Bored During the Holidays? #boringholidays

Bored During the Holidays? #boringholidays

Though many people enjoy the hubbub of shopping and decorating and the clamor of children on the holidays, I believe a great many people don’t enjoy the few days of good cheer at all. In fact, some of my clients grieve the holidays. People celebrating all around only reminds some of loss and perhaps having nowhere to go to feel the security of family on Christmas.

For many years, I would simply make plans to be on a vacation for the holiday. That was my way of avoiding the fact that I had established no “normal” family, as much of the world sees it. There would be no children waking up early to see what Santa brought, no holiday wonder bedecking my yard, and certainly no Christmas tree in the living room! I made laws against those things. But, as I’ve asked myself over the years, and have asked my clients, too, what exactly are we expecting on a holiday that we don’t expect on a normal day in our lives? Can’t we create what we need without falling prey to old feelings of grief and dismay? I think we can.

One thing for sure is that life around us seems to stop on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The gym closes. The grocery stores shut off the lights. Restaurants don’t serve food. All of the regular shows on television that you generally look forward to have been preempted by old holiday movies and cartoons about snowmen. Everyone seems to be taking a much-needed break.

But what about people who have nowhere to eat or a place to visit? I guess we could go to the movies. The cinemas tend to stay open and fairly packed on Christmas. You could find solace there. If you want to wait until the day after Christmas, you can find shopping bargains a plenty. If you can make it through Christmas Eve and Christmas day, then, you probably will be okay.

So, think of things that can fulfill your needs during those two rather slow and silent days.
I know that many yoga and meditation practices hold special classes and services for the holidays, if you enjoy that.
You can invite a few people over who are in the same situation as you and have a potluck.
You can rent a few movies and have an all-night event watching funny films.
Then, the least likely, I know, would be to take the time to be alone and away from everybody and everything.
Write in your journal about what you want to accomplish during the New Year. Journal your feelings and put on some sacred music to take you to a place of total peace.
This maybe a good time to start a home project, such as painting a room. What better way to make good out of something negative than to take action on something that has been on your to-do list that you haven’t had time for?
Absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best things to do is to invite a bunch of orphan friends over who aren’t going home for Christmas and make a big holiday feast. Plan some fun games and great music and you can create your own family.

This list is inspiring me. Maybe I don’t want to do family this year for Christmas! I’ll give my momma to a friend and paint my bedroom chartreuse. LOL

No matter what you choose to do, know this for certain, no day defines you. You are the same person yesterday, today and tomorrow, no matter what holiday happens. Holiday blues be gone!
